1241496 2011-11-02 20:18:00 Recently, my computer randomly stuck at the "Starting Windows" but without the Windows logo screen. I have to shut it down by pressing the switch button and restart it.

What could be the cause?

1241497 2011-11-02 20:56:00 Could be something in startup hanging? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1241498 2011-11-03 07:14:00 It's happening at random and it's more frequently of late. Could it be my HDD is causing this random issue?

It's a Black WD 1 TB HDD.

1241499 2011-11-03 07:16:00 Does it do the same thing if you boot into safe mode?? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1241500 2011-11-03 07:27:00 Thats one thing to keep an eye on, the Black WD's do have a higher than other failure rate.
BUT before condemning a drive when it may not be,check this.

Click on Start, type in reli Click on "View Reliability History", Once it opens, look at the days/times it Hung, hopefully there will be a error message, or a red circle with a white X click that, below will say what caused it. If there is the wording " View technical Details to the right, open it and see what it says.

Another thing to look at is click start, type in eventvwr, select and open, then undwer windows logs/System - look for any errors at the time it hung --- if so what are their descriptions. ?

When it happens, I just shut it down by pressing the ON/OFF button and restart the system, it will then asks for whether I want to start Windows normally or repair windows . So far, selecting Start Windows Normally works fine .

Nothing critical shown in "View Reliability History" - Maybe I have just cleared all the records in 'Event viewer' . However I did copy down two main items:

"The Windows Search service terminated unexpectedly . It has done this 1 time(s) .
The following corrective action will be taken in 30000 milliseconds: Restart the service .

*****

The Windows Search service terminated with service-specific error %%-1073473535"

But when the system starts normally, there isn't anything at all in the event viewer . Looks like it's a HDD random read error, to me .

1241502 2011-11-03 08:11:00 The error message is nothing really to worry about -- Exact meaning (social.technet.microsoft.com)

Have you tried running the WD Drive tester through the HDD ?
