2011-11-15 00:44:00 | My HTPC OS drive is going away for RMA, mean time i am thinking to buy another one. Thinking to buy the WD Caviar Greens as they are cheaper, cooler and silent. but has anyone noticed any issues with them? It will be used as the OS drive and also hold some media files. Thanks.

2011-11-15 08:23:00 | I use a wd green. Works awright, even for games. Loadtimes are still good, though I do believe I drop a few frames occasionally. Not a big deal though. | 8ftmetalhaed (14526) | |

2011-11-15 19:56:00 | Should be fine I think. From my tests - copying a single 1.8GB file with eSATA. Seagate SATA2 to SATA2 - 30sec. Seagate SATA2 to SATA1 - 31sec. Seagate SATA2 to laptop SATA - 36sec.

2011-11-15 20:28:00 | All my 3 WDs failed - 1st was a green 1TB which failed < 2 months; 2nd was a Black also 1 TB which failed < 6 months; and 3rd was also a Black 1 TB which failed just < 2 years 2 weeks ago. Will never get a WD again.

That has to be some really bad luck as we only use WD drives in our builds, and have done for over 5 years, and I can only remember one or two ever coming back under warranty (3 or 5 years) that was faulty. We've had a couple fail outside of the 3 year warranty but these were in machines that were running 24/7. |
