1243453 2011-11-14 05:04:00 A friend has been given a used laptop. The language is in Chinese. Can I change it to English? If it has a recovery partition can I reinstall it and chose English? cybernerd (12461)
1243454 2011-11-14 05:16:00 If windows is chinese the recovery partition is probably chinese. You could try a language interface pack (LIP). If its available. But not all languages support them. What version of windows is it?? If its Vista or Win7, only certain versions support LIP's Speedy Gonzales (78)
1243455 2011-11-14 08:23:00 I went thru this a while back. It depends what edition do you have. For a lot of languages. You need something like a Ultimate Edition or a Enterprise Edition for it to work. The same for Windows XP but Windows XP is even more restricted. If you don't have Ultimate or Enterprise you are then restricted to just a handful of languages. Underneath the link says for you to convert from XXX language to English you DO need Ultimate or Enterprise for Windows 7.

One way to do English and Chinese is maybe buy a local Chinese edition that is in English and they have a language pack on the DVD to switch to Chinese. Do that have this?

1243456 2011-11-14 09:24:00 Why not just reinstall it with an English DVD (CD if XP) using the COA key? You should be able to activate it. bk T (215)
