2011-11-12 00:53:00 | Hi guys, I know the thread title is pretty useless but I actually don't have any more of an idea of what is making it run so slowly. It seems like memory usage some times spikes to 100% randomly but I cant for the life of me figure out what is making this happen. When the slow down happens it takes about 5 seconds for anything to respond. Here is a HijackThis log for anyone interested in helping :) Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.4 Scan saved at 1:51:36 PM, on 11/12/2011 Platform: Windows 7 SP1 (WinNT 6.00.3505) MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.7601.17514) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\Program Files (x86)\DAEMON Tools Lite\DTLite.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Razer\Anansi\RazerAnansiSysTray.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Razer\Imperator\RazerImperatorTray.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\acrotray.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\LogMeIn Hamachi\hamachi-2-ui.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Messenger\msnmsgr.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Contacts\wlcomm.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe C:\Users\CoolMaster\Downloads\tdsskiller\TDSSKille r.exe C:\Users\CoolMaster\Downloads\HijackThis.exe R1 - Thanks.

2011-11-12 01:32:00 | Four fifths of those running processes don't need to be running. Try killing them off one at a time and see if the issue disappears with one of them. Way too much Adobe bullsht being run without cause.

2011-11-12 02:54:00 | Sorry, I dont use the HijackThis programme, but whats with all the missing files? That doesnt look very normal to me. The Unknown Owner doesnt look right either. You havent got some corrupt data or a corrupt profile by any chance? I may be wrong as I dont use the programme. | Iantech (16386) | |
2011-11-12 03:12:00 | Hi guys, This is not my computer so I am not sure how well it has been maintained , Specs are as follows CPU: Core2Duo 3.16Ghz RAM: 2Gb (On the low side I would guess, I think the other stick failed mtest and was the cause of BSODS) Motherboard: ASUSTek P5KPL-CM Graphics: Radeon HD 4850 I noticed in the hijack this log that there are "context menu items", is that all the random rubish like "Adobe Drive CS4" that appears in the context menu on files? If they are the file context menu would it be OK to delete them? I am also quite interested in the point that IanTech bought up about the missing files and unknown user - I have my windows disk here so I could just reinstall if the OS is hosed. Thanks for all the help everyone, it is really appreciated.

2011-11-12 03:19:00 | The missing files is normal in Win 7. Hijackthis needs to be updated | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2011-11-12 03:36:00 | Run msconfig/Startup and untick pretty much everything there except security progs. I would hazard that you will be able to stop around 8-10 unnecessary startups. You can always re-tick ones that need to run if you get too brutal. | linw (53) | |
2011-11-12 07:54:00 | RAM will make a *huge* difference. Get an extra 1GB at least, 2GB ideally with the games you play :) | Chilling_Silence (9) | |
2011-11-12 08:34:00 | Should I make sure that the memory is 'paired', ie buy 4GB or just get another module of corsair XMS2 (I think it has this in it currently)? | Fifthdawn (9467) | |
2011-11-12 19:08:00 | Unless you're super sensitive about performance (Shouldn't be if you've survived off 2GB for now), just get whatever you can for the cheapest :) crucial.com has a scanner that will help if you're really selective :)
