How do you figure out what is "good" or "bad"?

For shaving i guess most men probably go for gillette related products due to the brand name. Things like facial wash are a bit unclear though, what with so many different models and types. Moisturers, toners, exfoliaters...

I also recently purchased a bottle of Enya Lanolin Cream body wash, and i can't figure out whether i got a defective bottle or something, because it just smells so bad that i almost puked in the shower stall. Can't return it either so i feel like i got scammed somehow...guess i should try smelling soap before buying it.

1217234 2011-07-16 05:25:00 I just use what the wife uses and if it doesn't work I blame her :)

I generally just use trial and error and when I find a good one I stick with it.

1217235 2011-07-16 05:31:00 For me Gillette shaving works for me, generally the other stuff like Nivea or more pricey. Gillette isn't the cheapest but it might the lower lot excl no brands.

For facial, don't use them :D I used to have a aftershave balm which I found was better than normal EDT - I had the same scent. To me the scent needs to match. I don't like to use a deodorant that smells diff to a aftershave :p at the min I would use a deodorant that is low in scent but some you can get a matching EDT, to a deodorant to even shower gel on some....

Having said that I only buy what I need, no what the marketing division of some corporate machine want me to think I need.

Toothpaste, soap.....uh...yeah, thats it.

I may have some shaving cream but usually I use an electric razor.

You'll get the same with some designer label stuff. Some might be in their 20s and others 60s ... diff market. I tried one of the Channel aftershave and got that old tobacco type smell.... :p Or it might of been Yves Saint Laurent.

For toothpaste, don't care, I just stick to the big names and get them when they are on special. I don't go for Colgate Total or the equiv that they say offer 24hr protection. Ask any decent dentist they will say any toothpaste is fine, it's how you use it and re: mouth rinse and plaque pre-rinse or softener, it's largely bull. The scientific data is taken out of context and used for marketing. You are better off having a healthier lifestyle and regular dental checkup and maintain it better.

1217239 2011-07-16 06:25:00 All I use is shaving cream, soap and toothpaste. No underarm **** or body deoderants. The toothpaste I use is Sensodyne cause if I don't use it I get sensitive teeth.

1217242 2011-07-16 08:46:00 Sometimes use cheap Asian/Generic shampoo brands, for scrubbing the steps, or cars, windows, mags, or as hand soap. Hardly for personal use. Shaving cream/shampoo/body soaps - mid range brands, e.g. Imperial, and premium brands when available at local discount merchant stores. Tons of such stores in industrial areas of Manukau/Botany. kahawai chaser (3545)
