Hmm interesting, wonder how many will join it.
Also wonder how much the router/modem to access the fibre will be?

1217128 2011-07-15 11:26:00 Looks good, but what data plans will those speeds be paired with?

I would quite happily pay $455/month for 1Gbit/s downstream if it was unlimited.

1217130 2011-07-15 12:31:00 I wonder if they will be cheaper in areas with competition like their phone lines are? Greven (91)

Well if it's like our fibre install was then you pay for the installation which is around $200 depending on how long you decide to sign up for and that includes the router from your ISP. It also includes the media converter from the fibre installer.

1217132 2011-07-15 13:52:00 If I could get 5mbps unlimited then I would be happy. atm I get 15mbps, but I go through my cap so damn fast, and I end up having to tell mum to hold off downloading her youtube videos because we're at 20/30gb with more than a week left till rollover. It's annoying as hell.

What point is there to all that speed when there's nothing to fuel it?

1217133 2011-07-15 21:01:00 There had better be no caps. Caps are a money scavenging act from ISP's.

50/100 for $55 a month sounds good, currently $55 with orcon 12gb 1/11 mbps and boy do I hate that data cap. Cant do much about it though.

1217134 2011-07-15 21:09:00 You realise those prices are what the ISPs will pay?
So they still have to add their markup.

1217135 2011-07-15 23:40:00 The ISPs still get screwed by international data prices, so why should they get rid of caps? They should provide free/cheap access to sites that are cached in NZ though. Greven (91)
1217136 2011-07-16 00:13:00 The prices look good - I'd be prepared to pay $55+GST/mo for 100/50MBit/s + data costs. somebody (208)
