1217724 2011-07-20 01:59:00 Not sure which planet some of these principals come from. The costs of having a couple of kids in high school is high enough already. I can see quite a few iPads being stolen/dropped/broken so it certainly will not be a one off cost either. CliveM (6007)
1217725 2011-07-20 02:09:00 This school have really helped inflame the situation by not thinking through this idea properly, if they had then they would have gone to several suppliers or even manufacturers and said our school is going to need 150 devices what deal can you offer and then pass that offer on to students gary67 (56)

What teachers ?? There wont be many shortly. Why need them, as every thing will be laid out Via the schools servers, the students simply log in and do their work.

.

Laurence Zwimpfer, an education IT specialist

"This is about self-directed learning. It's not about the old model of teaching - we moved away from that a long time ago," he said.

"Students won't have to wait to be spoon-fed information by the teacher and then be made to regurgitate it at exam time. Students will have to research and figure out which information is relevant.

"With the old model of teaching, information is restricted because students have to wait to copy everything down from the board. There is richer information available in the digital world."

Why bother with the school at all. They can connect at home and "figure out what information is relevant". Google + an ipad. What else do they need?

1217730 2011-07-20 08:12:00 nice one.

But seriously, being spoon fed information is how BAD teachers work.
I've had a few of those. Even lecturers do it.

There are sometimes good teachers though, who encourage thought and development, but even then they can only make an impact once the kids let them.

Stupid idea really. Most research will consist of flash games and googling 'boobies'

Ah, so no flash support is a desired feature. That must be where all the cost is involved.

Do you want some straws to go with that grasping?

Look, no flash, only $995

I have a calculator that also lacks flash support....
