1244109 2011-11-20 05:50:00 yep. thats what i thought. just so I dont have to start another thread, looking at my computer, (signature) can you think of any other ways that i could inprove it?
You're wanting to play modern games right?
ON a budget maybe on of these: www.playtech.co.nz and a decent graphics card around the $200-250 mark.

What's your psu like? If it's bad you could go for a non-powered card like the 9800GT (which is non-powered iirc).

1244110 2011-11-21 02:42:00 So from what you have said I going to say that you dont want to spend any money at all on this PC?
What are you trying to get it to run?

You definiatly wont get much of a perfomance boost out of overclocking the stuff you have.
Just do a search for info on google
www.devhardware.com
www.forumapex.com

I think another major problem is that your overclocking old hardware, I mean its close to the end of its life and overclocking is going to put more presure on the chip to fail.
If you dont have money to upgrade you most likely then can replace a part if it fails.

Another option mabye slim down your operation system to get the most out of it. Get rid of all the junk from it.

I hope some of this helped.

nothing in particular. The computer is my dads old one, before I came along it was last upgraded in... 2003? i think. it was A LOT worse then. I've probably spent about $150 on it. (new cpu, triple ram, new PSU, new/old HDD)my dad won't let me upgrade the motherboard, but everything else I can do whatever I want, so I just wondered if I could get anything else out of it.

it's already on XP, cos of that exact reason. thanks for the links, shall be helpful depending on what I decide to do. I have cleaned out the computer so many times, do frequent defrags, I just want to see just how good I can get it to go. Thanks everyone, help is appreciated.

And I dont mean to be rude, but will people please READ my posts??? I CAN'T UPGRADE!!! end of story. If an upgrade involves a new Motherboard, then NO. anything else, perhaps. but NO new motherboards. BTW, I have a ... 350W PSU? and would that card really make much of a difference?

Anyway I think we've found your problem. Your not going anywhere fast (gfx wise) until you get onto pci-e which = new mobo. Which of course you can't do. Is there a particular reason why you "can't" upgrade?

1244116 2011-11-21 19:43:00 I think he would get a noticeable performance boost with one of the last made AGP cards, but it may be overpriced for the performance.

Overall performance would then probably be limited by the CPU and the lack of RAM.

AND a new PSU might be needed to power the thing.
