2011-11-12 03:19:00 | I would pay a bit more and get something decent. End of the day, you get what you pay for, if you want to go for the bottom end, expect it to be rubbish. Future proof yourself a little, you will find it will be worth it in the long run. Cheers. +1 definetly. unless you know for sure that it's gonna be good, definetly spend a bit more to get a trustworthy one.

2011-11-16 02:09:00 | Do any netbooks come with a better webcam than 0.3 mp? Any with 1.3mp or more? At this time I have narrowed it down to these two netbooks: This Toshiba (www.elive.co.nz) and This ASUS (www.itexpress.co.nz) Both have 6 cell batteries. Some cheap netbooks have only 3 cell batteries. Both have 250 Gb HD's. Some netbooks have 160 Gb hd's. I will add a 2 Gb stick of RAM. It seems netbooks only have one slot for RAM. SWMBO wants to make a purchase on Saturday. Your comments welcome... :p ...definetly spend a bit more to get a trustworthy one. Yes, as I said in my first post: ...I think cheapies are around $400; could pay more if necessary. Probably ASUS or Toshiba. ...

2011-11-16 05:18:00 | Accordingly to this ASUS has a 1.3MP webcam - depends on the model Netbook then I guess. lifehacker.com I have a desktop USB webcam that is 1.3MP. I don't really use more than 320x640 ish. I would be more concerned with autofocus, better colour and better glare reduction but I guess with Netbooks you don't have the luxury to consider those things. Those things are what I am dissatisfied with. But with a USB device one can just upgrade it.

2011-11-16 19:27:00 | Accordingly to this ASUS has a 1.3MP webcam - Thks. The specs (0.3mp) on the ASUS page must have been a misprint. It is interesting that the Lifehacker review put the ACER Aspire as one of the best 5 netbooks. I have looked at one at DSE and spoke with a guy who was using one at a cafe yesterday - they do look and feel OK but for a little more $$ I feel safer going with ASUS.

2011-11-17 20:39:00 | :)Bought this one: ASUS 1011PX (www.pbtech.co.nz) At $466, including shipping, it is a good price among the better Netbooks, and about $100 more than the Acer netbook currently at DSE. I did not involve SWMBO with the order, to avoid annoying requests (but I want a red one!). :p Some need a good dismantle to get access to that slot. :groan: Ughh. Hope not. I do plan on replacing the 1Gb stick with 2Gb, and don't want to risk voiding the warranty if it requires tearing it apart.
