1217527 2011-07-19 05:51:00 The missus reckons manuals are too hard. Heck I thought that when I first began, you get over it after a while. She's got an auto anyway now.

Anyway, cheers for the pointers. Hopefully Ill pass without too much hassle :D

1217528 2011-07-19 06:34:00 restricted, make sure you look down side streets as you drive. That's probably the biggest one that gets everybody.
Besides that its easy peasy if you have common sense.

1217529 2011-07-19 08:35:00 Do not forget indicators when moving onto the road from a parked position, when turning, changing lanes or leaving a roundabout. Bobh (5192)
1217530 2011-07-19 09:09:00 Just don't give them any reason at all to even think of failing you, there is essentially no right of reply even if they make something up just to fail you ( as they did in Porirua on my first restricted test, and attempted to do on my Full test ) lagbort (5041)
1217531 2011-07-19 09:56:00 When I got my restricted I was told my "gap selection" needed work, and I wasn't checking my mirrors often enough. Still got it though :p pcuser42 (130)

You will be able to make some mistakes during the test, so do not be daunted if you do make mistakes, just do not make too many. You will be marked down but you can still pass. The tester will let you know of any errors you make.

1217533 2011-07-20 06:38:00 A note of warning from an ex driving instructor. Do nothing at all that will p#@s off the tester, especially talking too much during the test. (Unless spoken to) Also, when you are stopped, like at traffic lights or Stop sign, leave enough space so that you can see the wheels of the vehicle in front.

Good luck with it!

1217534 2011-07-20 08:05:00 I had a mate fail from speeding while the cop was still seated beside him.

D'oh!

Reality is you should be capable enough to be confident in your own abilities.
Relax all you can, take your time - it's not a race.

Go out there with the attitude that every other motorist is an idiot, and you are the one having to make up for their own incompetence.

The indicator needs to get ample usage.

1217535 2011-07-20 08:32:00 Years ago I did my road test to get a motorcycle license on a 50cc motorcycle. The cop warned me before we started that he would not be going more than 50 kph while following me on his motorcycle. If I lost him by going too fast that would be a definite failure. I was worried about losing him by going over 50 kph and I must have rode my motorcycle at just over 40 kph instead of my usual 50+kph.

At the end of the test he asked me, "can't your bike go any faster?".

I replied that it was a bit hard to get it go any faster because of the small motor. I passed the test.
