1217061 2011-07-21 21:45:00 I worked in the banking system for several years as a young lad. I did ledgers, customer enquiries and teller, so I have a very good idea how the banking system works.
Lurking is correct, there is a paper trail, always, I used to have to trace deposits.....and if I was PCT, I wouldn't be waiting for the bank to come up out of balance somewhere else. If you know what you banked PCT......I would be making BIG noises!

Sol. like you I was a Branch Accountant for 28 years and came across some fairly good thefts'/creative accounting, suffice to say missing sequential numbering, alterations to top cash dockets at delivery point was another good one or the whole triplicate dockets missing.

Lurking.

1217063 2011-07-21 23:41:00 Well if there was a paper trail the buyer didn't seem interested in finding it, not once did they ever say anything like "I went to my bank and they said... blah blah blah"

Eventually they sent me a photograph of their internet banking, and said:

it wont show your bank account details now that the payment is made and im not sure how to get those details to show if you even can once payments are made. There is nothing more i can do i dont expect you to do anythign more either

In response to that I sent:

As you have found out online banking normally does not show the account number used etc.
However, if you ring your bank they will be able to get the full information including the account number you have used etc.

If the account number did end up wrong somehow (and is an invalid number) then the payment will usually be bounced back into your account (you may find that has happened if you look through your account records) Of course your bank will be able to confirm if this had happened as well.

So, if you could please contact your bank, they should be able to tell you exactly what has happened here.

They never replied to that, and I sent another one after that two days later:

Even if you don't care about the money now, could you still contact your bank and try to find out why I never received it?

I would very much like to know if the account number was correct at least.

Because if it was correct like you say, then there should be no reason why it wouldn't have gone through, and I find that very strange. I'm sure the bank would also want to know about a problem like that if it was the case.

Again, I received nothing back from them.

That is why I gave up on them, because they clearly just did not want to get their bank to find out what actually happened. Either that or they did call their bank and found out that the number was wrong.

In any case since they appeared to have given up and were ignoring me, I figured there was no use wasting any more of my time.

I thought I was.

I hassle them every 2 days. Been through several call centre people, 2 call centre managers, the Customer care manager at the branch, the whatever he was manager at the branch and if I hear nothing today I'll ring the Branch Manager on Monday. ( have her card)

But apart from venting on forums, you have to remain calm and do things properly, not go in and throw tantrums in the middle of the bank. I will also be asking for their final response in writing, mentioned this twice already but, you know how these things go.........slowly.

The final stop is the Banking Ombudsman.

I've pointed out I can see their point of view - now they just need to see mine.

.

Yeah, they can get details of where their money went - we had to do that once to prove we'd paid IRD. Cost $25 for my bank to tell us which exact IRD account our money had ended up in. IRD didn't pay us the $25 fee back to prove they had received payment either. Gee, such a lovely govt dept.

So you're probably right - your guy found he screwed up and didn't want to know.

1217067 2011-07-22 01:37:00 Taking a couple of Police persons into the bank and asking to see the manager certainly attracts their attention.
I'm not one of their faceless customers now. :D

1217068 2011-07-22 03:09:00 You should charge them by the hour (computer repair time rates) for the time you've wasted because they didn't do a simple job correctly and without a big fuss and bother. zqwerty (97)
1217069 2011-07-22 03:31:00 Enough!!

Go to the bank and ask to see the Manager.

If they won't get him/her for you, open your cellphone and call the Police. Tell them that you are reporting a robbery at the ******* Branch of the ASB Bank.

Once the Police arrive, I'm sure that you will get the manager's attention.

NOT a good idea Zippity, PCT would get done for wasting Police time because it is not a robbery. It isn't even theft until somebody is identified with sticky fingers. It is a technical or admin error.

Persistance and escalation up the chain of Bank authority will get results, one way or the other. When it gets high enough in the chain of command, somebody in the hierarchy of the Bank is going to kick butts and ask why this hasn't been sorted long ago.

My issue was going to cost the Bank a four figure sum (that is before the decimal pont too!) and they sure as heck didn't want it escalated too high up beyond the Branch. It went sideways in the admin realm to be resolved.

I think it is called self-preservation.

Cheers
