1217041 2011-07-20 06:32:00 What's the point in having a video/photographic record if you can't clearly see what's going on?

If the bank representative made noises about the bank being built on trust, then perhaps he should also refer to the golden rule of customer service (that his Bank is so proud of): the customer is always right (especially if the Bank can't prove otherwise).

LOL. Maybe I should bank at casinos - now their cameras would show every hair on their hands............

1217042 2011-07-20 07:43:00 seconded. also seconding the fair go idea. I love asb, but at the same time this seems very fishy. 8ftmetalhaed (14526)
1217043 2011-07-20 08:16:00 Yep, if the video is too blurry to clearly read denominations then it's pretty pointless (and why have a video if the bank is 'based on trust'. Hell, why have PIN numbers or passwords - we can bank on trust.

Frankly, they should have a camera close enough and clear enough to capture the text on the bag/envelope, otherwise it's pointless to have a camera at all, and it could be anybodys deposit - how and why should we believe that single deposit was yours?

I'm not impressed.
I administer 4 different accounts through ASB, including a charitable trust, and I expect them to treat my deposits in a manner that can be properly traced - otherwise I end up in the pooh with the auditors if things don't add up.

In the branch I make deposits they've made it routine to position a staff member where customers line up in order to deliberately steer as many of them as possible to the quick deposit system (as opposed to having that staff member actually serving behind the counter).

1217044 2011-07-20 08:18:00 pctek: if you'd PM me your daytime contact, maybe I could help (my credentials include having taken on the ASB before, and won). I'd like to help :)

I guess the camera is just there to stop them pocketing any money ?

1217046 2011-07-20 10:25:00 It shows one bag at a time pulled out from under a counter and count it. You can't see whats written on it nor it's bag number, it's too fuzzy.

Doesn't matter, it's going to be one of those things that can't be resolved in black or white.

One bag pulled out from under a counter on its own is enough grounds to call the action/procedure into doubt.

Go to the police!!

1217047 2011-07-20 11:01:00 Still never knew what happened here: pressf1.co.nz

I had something similar happen with my flatmate - he pays his share of the power bill into my account & one month it didn't show up so we both had to take screenshots of our internet banking history & print it out to prove the bank lost the money.

Yeah I didn't really believe it when everyone told me it wasn't possible for the bank to screw up...

Either way, the buyer (eventually) only provided me with a screenshot that proved nothing except a transfer appeared to have been made at some point and they had used my name on it (which means nothing, since the account number is what really matters)

I went to my bank and asked them about it, they said they had no record of any deposit and I should tell the buyer to contact their own bank

I asked the buyer multiple times to go to their bank and actually get the bank to check and verify 100% that the transaction had been made and that the account number was 100% correct but I never received anything back indicating that anything had been done on the part of the buyer.

In the end I just gave up, as they didn't seem to actually care about what really happened, even though it seems that they did make a transfer somewhere.

1217049 2011-07-20 20:40:00 I have not yet spoken with the Branch Manager, only the whatever sort of manager he was Manager.

It has to go through the banks process first.

If I'm not happy I can then go to the banking ombudsman, although that's kind of like Disputes tribunal, they can only go on what evidence there is.

So I'll let it go through the motions and meanwhile I really am going to note the serial numbers etc. Mr 1st Manager said that was "a good idea".

1217050 2011-07-21 03:17:00 What happened to the video of the envelope being opened?

I would have thought that this would be definitive!

Or was a it just a an urban myth..........

Cheers
