1244052 2011-11-17 19:09:00 I have a Thomson speedtouch ADSL modem which I am more than happy with.

Recently I obtained my first laptop and now want to upgrade to a wireless variety. Do you have any recommendations, something at a reasonable cost.

I suppose they don't make addons to my existing unit?

1244053 2011-11-17 19:21:00 :DIf you were to phone Telecom and talk to them nicely, probably they will 'upgrade' a wireless unit for you FOC.

Just tell them that your speedtouch modem is having some problem like random disconnections, slow in initialising when first turn on, etc., whatever you can think off. :D .

My experience with the new Thomson wireless ADSL router (ver 8) is excellent - excellent speed, stable, excellent wireless signal. You can't ask for more. :)

For some unknown reason, bk T had trouble with it though - these things can happen. ;)

1244055 2011-11-17 19:28:00 I agree with bk T - ask TCom. You will probably be required to sign on to a 12 mth contract. But if you are happy with Tcom, that is no problem. This is what I did. linw (53)
1244056 2011-11-17 20:22:00 Thanks for the suggestions. I'm with Farmside and they too have agreed to supply such a modem if I sign up for another 12 months. Farmside have proven to be very good so I have done that. Bryan (147)
1244057 2011-11-17 22:32:00 I will go out in limb too :p

We bought a Netcomm - the little white one. It could only connect at ADSL1 speed, we just wanted a upgrade to another and pay the diff, but Ascent wanted to go thru the whole process despite contacting them on the day we received it, so we just took a 10% lost (?) and got our refund, we had already spent a week or two on dialup. Got a Dlink at DSE with their money back gaurantee and it has worked v well.

?? Netcomm don't sell ADSL1 modems anymore. I had a little white and it worked great on 2+
