1243790 2011-11-15 21:43:00 Hi Everyone,

We have a 300 workstation network consisting of mixture of Thinclients (HP Linux T5135's, '45s and '25s, Win7 Netbooks, XP and Vista Desktops.

Is there a way to send a break message to all these clients without having to install or enable something and from a command line?

If you can provide an example on how this can be used that would be grand.

Many thanks,
@

1243791 2011-11-15 21:51:00 If the messenger service is available (it's often disabled) then use net send.

If it's not available, or you want more control, then use psexec.

The thin clients, being Linux based, will need a different solution - this will depend on the software environment installed, there is no standard utility that's guaranteed to be there.

Thanks for your reply. Could you give an example please of how the command could be used on a Workgroup. Can it be used with Client IP addresses as well as host names?

1243793 2011-11-19 01:46:00 Could you give an example please of how the command could be used on a Workgroup.Neither of these commands are directed against a workgroup or domain; you point it at individual computers. The documentation for these commands explains how to use them.

Can it be used with Client IP addresses as well as host names?Yes - you can use either the target computers's hostname or its IP address.
