1243528 2011-11-14 09:55:00 Hi

I have noticed in games I have recently installed and/or played that the graphics seem to be very pixelated/blurry.

I have no idea what is causing this issue and I have noticed it in the following games:

F1 2011
rFactor
Battlefield 3
Modern Warfare 2 & 3
The Sims 3

Here is a picture from rFactor which shows you what I mean - the settings are on the highest possible. I noticed this first happening about a month ago.

My suspicion was it was due to the driver update I did on my graphics card, so I rolled back to the original driver yet still have the problems. An interesting thing about this was that I had quite possibly the hardest time getting an update in the first place. After many hours of downloading the updates and installing them from the ATI website and them not working, I phoned Toshiba only to hear that they modify the chipset so updates from ATI will not work. I had to instead apply an update from a Toshiba website - the odd thing was that my graphics card somehow changed from a 4650 to a 5165 - Having now rolled back the update, it has gone back to a 4650.

Reinstalling the games does not fix it.

Toshiba Satellite Pro L500 (laptop)
ATI Radeon HD 4650 Series
Intel i5 M520 Dual Core
4GB Ram

Any suggestions or comments on what to do would be appreciated :)

1243529 2011-11-14 11:31:00 Yes, Toshiba do some pretty strange things, I also found that out too.
Interestingly enough Linux doesn't seem to have any problem with it.

I would try running something like Driversweeper, cleaning everything out, and then installing the Toshiba drivers. When I tried using generic ATi drivers it screwed a lot of things up really well. I never tested 3D though, because I couldn't even get the basics to work right.

1243530 2011-11-14 22:25:00 Thanks for your reply, unfortunately those steps did not fix the problem. To be honest I am getting close to formatting and starting from scratch! soccer2551 (16622)
1243531 2011-11-14 22:34:00 Does this also happen on low or medium settings? icow (15313)

Yeah only everything looks a lot worse.

Put it this way, the image in the first post shows what the car looks like now, before that it used to be a high definition car "skin" that was not pixelated/blurry at all.

Thanks

1243533 2011-11-14 22:50:00 Perhaps you can give this a try: www.hardwareheaven.com

(Modifies the ATi Mobility reference drivers to work on OEM machines)

I think I tried it on my Toshiba with unsatisfactory results but then again mine is fairly old. It might work for yours.

Thanks, I'll give it a try now

EDIT: It didn't work, thanks for the suggestion though! I just get the same error message that I did months ago when trying to install the ati drivers

1243535 2011-11-14 23:09:00 Did your laptop come with a software restore or driver disk? icow (15313)
1243536 2011-11-14 23:18:00 Did your laptop come with a software restore or driver disk?

Nope, just a Windows XP SP3 downgrade disk.

I'm getting to the point where I might just say "screw it!" and format...
