1243547 2011-11-14 06:59:00 Hey,

I know robocopy can't write to ftp by default but I need something that can. Does anyone know of a good (preferably free) software which will allow me to do this?

What I need to do is upload some data tonight (a full backup) and just do a differential in a few days time.

Thanks for any help.

1243548 2011-11-14 08:55:00 Filezilla is a good choice.

Aah ? but I'm not sure now whether that is what you mean?

1243550 2011-11-15 03:12:00 rsyncRsync isn't an FTP client, it can't do what the OP wants (i.e. it can't do differential backups to an FTP server). It's ideal otherwise though. Erayd (23)
1243551 2011-11-15 03:48:00 one backup program I used to use all the time was HandyBackup (www.handybackup.net) -- it worked perfectly over a LAN, but I have never tried the FTP options, but the version I used had them, it does Full, differential and incremental backups.

Looks like theres free version now as well, No idea if it will do what you want - but something to possibly look into.

However, most ask for what they want, rather than what they need, and rsync over SSH beats FTP with a big stick.
There could be SSH already available or trivially set-up, but without any background info we can't tell.

If someone asked if a 3 or 4 tine pitchfork was best to shift a truckfull of ball bearings, would you not suggest a shovel?

edit: my post was a bit terse as I was short of time, but I thought a quick look at some rsync info may turn on a light bulb or two for the OP.
... and if it's not an option, feel free to ignore me :)

I'm gonna go with the three-tine pitchfork; I have an irrational bias against shovels .

1243554 2011-11-15 09:42:00 Thanks for the ideas guys.

In the end I tried it with Cobian but the Internet connection was so slow that it didn't achieve what I wanted, never mind.

rsync does seem like a good thing to look into.
