1217357 2011-07-17 20:50:00 Yeah, I just noticed that!

Went into voda to ask the guy about them, he thinks that the telecom/voda versions wouldnt work on each others network. Cunning little devil was saying that they buy from europe and tele buy from the states therefore not cross compatible.... each handset is GSM/HDSPA quad band. Unless there is some other limiting factor it will work :D

At least there is just one model now, not 1001 of them! I'll try get one from china when im over there for xmas, they should be around 700 NZD by then

1217358 2011-07-17 22:43:00 They may be quad-band, but that is generally only for voice. They are usually dual or tri-band when it comes to data. And there they tend not to be particularly compatible. I have lent my "Telecom" Nexus to a mate on Vodafone, to see how it copes. I suspect voice will be fine, but data may be patchy, since the only band TNZ and VF have in common is the 2100 ...

Wat.....don't get banding confused with WCDMA vs GSM, all the talk I have seen about quad band specifically relates to WCDMA, the S2 is a quad band WCDMA phone IE it supports 850/900/1800/2100 WCDMA, with the GSM bands in there as well.

Good to see Vodafone employees know their stuff . . . . . <snigger> . He's talking out his jacksy . As Alex says above, they're a quad-band handset (a la the iPhone 4) which works perfectly on Telecom or VF/2D - there's no different firmware/modem for different networks etc . Some of the US carriers may lock the firmware, but the standard European version you'd import from the likes of Clove (carrying the XEU firmware) is unlocked .

The ONLY thing you'd need to do with a Vodafone SGS2 to get it to work on Telecom, is chuck a SIM card in and set up the APN's for 3G .

1217361 2011-07-18 09:52:00 With HDSPA I thought the freqs were for data and voice? so if it supported 850 HDSPA (WCDMA) it would support voice and data The Error Guy (14052)
1217362 2011-07-18 09:54:00 Correct Alex B (15479)
