1244800 2011-11-22 03:25:00 Just wondering if this is possible

My son has autism and likes to type out stuff on the pc in notepad and wordpad mostly

He will close the program and click save, which automatically saves to "default save name" and consistantly overwrites what he has done every day

Is there a way to make wordpad/notepad save to a different default name preferably the days date and or time.?

I have tried google but im not sure im asking the right question...

EDIT: forgot to mention he uses XP but i could move to 7 if it would help

1244801 2011-11-22 04:17:00 Remember seeing programs that rename files for you in a folder - they may be able to automate the process? Disco_Dan (16576)
1244802 2011-11-22 04:54:00 Perhaps OneNote might be an option here? It doesn't have a save option - it only saves automatically. :) pcuser42 (130)
1244803 2011-11-22 05:16:00 Or perhaps a back up solution that only backs up files on the desktop - would keep a carbon copy of each file, even though they are the same.

I work in mental health after working in the disability sector for many years. I remember one autistic client I taught in school used to make his own computer games - fascinating to watch. Our biggest problem was behavior, specifically swearing. Reason I mention this is I will always remember his response to me when I told him off about saying "son of a *** " - his response? "daughter of a dog" - fantastic! I had to leave the room to contain my laughter!

1244804 2011-11-22 06:21:00 Notepad++ (lifehacker.com) with it's plugins and macro feature may help kahawai chaser (3545)
1244805 2011-11-22 06:52:00 You could script a little batch that would rename the file to the date and move the file every evening. Alex B (15479)
1244806 2011-11-22 07:47:00 Thanks for the info so far.
Kahawai, notepad++ creates a new note everytime so close but there in no font selection. This appears to be a programme writing notepad software, very powerful. I forgot to mention he likes to change the fonts regularly and downloads his own when the one he wants is not there..LOL

Disco Dan yeah they can surprise you. And as below might be the best option.

Alex, might be the easiest option, something like hamster, which does rev backups so each copy has a different rev

Pcuser: will give this a try at work tomorrow, good idea

Keep em coming, willing to try anything, Thanks so far guys
