| 1244487 | 2011-11-20 22:18:00 | Hi, I occasionally required to send fax from PC. Is there any way, we can send fax from PC without connecting any external Fax device? If I can use free software and can send free fax would be better. Other wise please let me know the cheapest option. On my Win 7 PC, I have seen "Windows Fax and Scan" software but when I tried with that, it is asking me to connect Fax Modem to my PC. Thanks in advance. |

This is probably your cheapest option as a PCI modem can be bought for about $10-$20 on Trademe. The other options are to have an external device, like a multifunction printer/scanner/fax/copier, that supports PC faxing. Or pay for a service, which allows you to send an email to a fax machine. Not sure if this service still exists though as I can only find services that offer receiving faxes to your email rather than sending. |

You'll need a connected Dial-Up modem (and phone line) capable of being used as a 'virtual fax' as faxes communicate through phone lines. Otherwise you're looking for an Email-to-Fax service provider, who usually charge x-amount per month for their service. |

| 1244492 | 2011-11-21 00:38:00 | Thank you all. If I buy Dial-Up modem capable of being used as a 'virtual fax', Do I still require to buy the fax facility(i.e. get fax number) from my phone company(i.e. Slingshot)? |

If you just want to send the occasional FAX all you need is a traditional phoneline. You don't need faxability. Maybe if you want a dedicated fax number so people can send you faxes. |

Maybe if you want a dedicated fax number so people can send you faxes. An alternative to getting a dedicated fax number is to switch to fax mode during certain times of the day (e.g. between 10am and 11am) and ask the person to reply to his faxes only within that particular period. Cheers :) |
