1244405 2011-11-20 00:46:00 Kiaora everyone. Got Windows 7 and it won't boot up. On safe mode it freezes at classpnp.sys

I assumed the file was infected so I made a partition, installed Windows 8 in dual boot so I could log in and replaced classpnp.sys for the Windows 7 partition from a clean computer with the same install (windows 7 64-bit).

It still froze upon boot so I decided to replace it with the Windows 8 classpnp.sys, upon loading into safe mode instead of jamming on classpnp.sys and blue screening it jumped to system repair upon trying to load that file (fingers crossed).

Initially I simply inserted the Windows 7 dvd, went to repair, command prompt and did the "copy" command to replace classpnp.sys but it did nothing and still froze upon boot.

I also try sfc /scannow and it always says a repair is pending or something.

So I have a corrupt Windows 7, and perfect Windows 8, please tell me I can fix Windows 7 partition from Windows 8. Please :o

Thank you for your time guys.

1244406 2011-11-20 00:54:00 STOP: c0000135 The program can't start because %hs is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

This is my blue screen of death error.

1244407 2011-11-20 01:36:00 Method 1: Follow the steps outlined in the article below

Windows Vista or Windows 7 no longer starts and the Startup Repair tool does not fix the problem
support.microsoft.com

Method 2: Run check disk from Windows recovery environment

a) Access Windows Recovery command (as stated in the link below): Run Check disk to fix any bad sectors on the hard drive.

b) At the command prompt type chkdsk /f and then press enter.

c) Now, type in chkdsk /r and then press enter.

windows.microsoft.com

And those with AVG that may be the acuse:
1) What you do is first try to upload and configure the AVG Recovery CD at: Free Antivirus - Forum - How to stop AVG while the Operating System Cannot Be Started correctly. After you boot up your Personal Computer off of the CD, choose the first option. When the program loads then go to the Utilities and from that go to File Manager and from there go to
mnt
sda# (frequently 1 will be your windows partition)
2) After it enter in to your Program Files and rename the AVG folder by pressing F6 while highlighting the folder and name it to "garbage" or somewhat like that. After it restart the computer. 3) Once in windows, rename that "garbage" folder back to AVG. 4) download the appropriate removal tool program for your windows (32 or 64 bit). 5) Allow the PC to restart and all should be better.

1244408 2011-11-20 02:45:00 Had this on a w7 machine after an update, after that several other sys files stopped boot including fvevol.sys (I think)

My end solution was to format and reinstall but as a last ditch attempt I copied the conents of sysem32/drivers and overwrote everything, That fixed it up. Seems good so far (happened last week)

Thank you pctek i'm gonna try that right now.

Sup error guy :) Just wondering where you copied your system32/drivers contents from to get clean ones? Is it located on the windows 7 disc? Thanks

1244410 2011-11-20 03:58:00 Sup pctek. I'm getting a write-protected error so I'm gonna log into Windows 8 and do the chkdsk from there. CaptainVincent (76)
1244411 2011-11-20 07:52:00 Not from the CD/DVD, it was from another 32x install on a machine I had with me. If your install is 64x use that.

The only reason I used that was because windows could not correct the fault. Its not the technical proper thing to do mind. You really should replace the corrupted files one by one. I got annoyed and stuck for time though

Thats the truth :D Doing things like that can really screw things up even worse. As per putting in the W8 file - not a good idea, by doing that has actually caused more of a problem than fixing it in the first place.

The auto fix that W7 has is not always that great, the Command prompt has a lot more functions, But We'll wait and see what chkdsk from W8 does.

bootrec /scanos comes back with 0 OS' upon scanning the partition and rebuildbcd did nothing :(

sfc/ scannow said that Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service

Any ideas guys?

1244414 2011-11-20 22:32:00 Hey everyone

Is there any way I can repair install my non-bootable windows 7, or upgrade it to windows 8 while logged into my windows 8 partition?
