1244265 2011-11-18 08:05:00 Running Windows XP. Have tried using Fix it from the Microsoft site and when completed it tells me there are no problems. Updates still won't install dianne pierce (13385)
1244266 2011-11-18 08:22:00 One of several things you can try:

Click start, Run, type in cmd <Press Enter> -- in the window that opens, type in net stop wuauserv <Press enter> you should get a confirmation message saying its completed.

next navigate to C:\Windows Locate the SoftwareDistribution folder and delete it.

Go back to the CMD window, type in net start wuauserv <Press Enter> once confirmed, ( I usually reboot after starting the service again ) then you can try to run windows updates again manually.

1244272 2011-11-18 09:29:00 Heres one reason for the .net framework error (support.microsoft.com) . Something is corrupt. Is this the fixit you ran?

Follow the info for XP

Windows XP users follow these steps to repair the .NET Framework 4 installation:

Close any currently running applications.
Click Start, click Control Panel and then click Add or Remove Programs.
Click Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile from the list of installed programs and click Change/Remove.
Select Repair .NET Framework 4 Client Profile to its original state and click Next.
Allow the repair to complete and then click Finish.
Click Restart Now to restart your computer.
Visit Windows Update, and attempt to install updates again.

.NET Framework 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5
To repair the .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, you must uninstall multiple versions of the .NET Framework by using the .NET Framework Cleanup Tool, and then reinstall the components.

To do this, follow these steps:

Visit the following blog post:
.NET Framework Cleanup Tool User's Guide
Download dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip from the following link on the site:
blogs.msdn.com
Extract dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip.
Among the files that you extracted, double-click cleanup_tool.exe to run.
You may be prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation. Type the password, or click Continue.
When the “Do you want to run the .NET Framework Setup Cleanup Utility?” message is displayed, click Yes.
Note this tool may be in English only; however, it also works for other language versions of Windows.
When you are prompted to accept the license agreement, click Yes.
.Net Framework Cleanup Tool starts.
In Product to cleanup, from the drop-down list box select a .Net Framework version that you want to remove, and then click Cleanup Now.
Note The cleanup tool does not let you remove the .NET Framework 2.0 in Windows Vista or later versions because the .NET Framework is installed as an operating system component.
After the .Net Framework is removed, restart the computer.
Download and install the following components:
.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 (this will also install .Net Framework 2.0 SP2 and .Net Framework 3.0 SP2)
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1
.Net Framework 1.1 SP1:
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1
.Net Framework 1.1:
Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package
Restart the computer.
Visit Windows Update, and then check for and install updates.
