1218855 2011-08-08 21:36:00 Zara is the editor of NZ PC World - she is the boss - post count is irrelevant. A little bit of respect would not go astray.

Joe, Zara's point is that you are saying all native American Indians are drunks, druggies, thieves and a law onto themselves. That is a pretty insulting blanket statement to make. In any society you always get a mix of the good and the bad. While the 'bad' characters stand out more, you should not assume everyone of that culture is the same.

And you know differently?

1218863 2011-08-09 09:22:00 To get this thread back on topic, how are the fires SurferJoe?? (That is if SurferJoe comes back). stu161204 (123)
1218864 2011-08-09 15:58:00 We are safe for the moment . The last two fires were arson and a pair of guys were caught for the first, really big one . No more smoke - until the next fire anyway .

I'll include a link to the Cal Fire Incident site for you and if you like so you can see what we have here in our little town for our safety in the other links::

The Gilman Pass Fire:: . co . riverside . ca . us/firepio/process?action=viewIncidentHtml&id=27536" target="_blank">tcfireweb . co . riverside . ca . us

The Eagle Fire: The biggest, latest one that smoked us out::

Falsely maligned as firefighters are here since they get paid 24/7 and only actually put out fires a few hours a week (on a slow week anyway) - people just don't understand that when you want a fireman or paramedic (same people) you want them NOW and in FORCE .

So it''s all relative to the people's concepts of needs and desires and when was the last time they needed assistance or will in the future . People tend to have short memories .

A person also tends to forget that the fire departments rescue in burning homes, deserts, in swift water, provide medical/surgical aid and deliver babies as well as extinguish fires of all kinds . They respond to auto accidents, dirt bike accidents, crashed aircraft and make mountain rescues . They are all trained in CPR and work as paramedics in ongoing training for their jobs .

All that and a very rigorous physical training program that's also required for their tenure in the department, running up mountains in full turn-out NOMEX gear in 100ºF+ heat and full blazing sunshine dragging a charged 2 1/2" hose all the way . They are physically tested monthly to see if they qualify, so there's no sitting around eating donuts and drinking coffee waiting for a fire .

By the way - our state firefighters are required to purchase their own clothing, down to the socks and underwear and they have to be NOMEX fireproof fabric out of a very low rate of pay too .

They also pay into Social Security and have deductions out of their paychecks for taxes, both state and federal .
