1218845 2011-07-26 05:13:00 Hey folks,

If we could keep the race-based generalisations to a minimum, that'd be neat, thanks.

VERY noticable that you don't say the same thing about the Irish jokes.:illogical

Seems that it is okay to tell Irish jokes but not one about maoris. Crazy.:illogical

Personally, I don't care how many Irish jokes there are - tell as many as you like - even I will come up with the occaisional Irish joke.

But why do you have to express righteous indignation on behalf of others? Don't you think that they can stand up for themselves?

You need to lighten up a little.

1218846 2011-07-26 06:05:00 Seems there's a biased Zeditor. Bad choice for a mod methinks.

Let's see - 87 posts in and drawing blood already! If this is a trend, I'll take my 11,587 posts and just leave. I don't need veiled threats.

Joe, Zara's point is that you are saying all native American Indians are drunks, druggies, thieves and a law onto themselves. That is a pretty insulting blanket statement to make. In any society you always get a mix of the good and the bad. While the 'bad' characters stand out more, you should not assume everyone of that culture is the same.

So is this the end of monday laughs?

I haven't seen any Irish jokes, but i'll make judgement calls on those as needed .

I'm intrigued that you consider it "righteous indignation on behalf of others"; I call it "making the forums a pleasant environment for all"

You are not very observant, then. It's very clearly headed "The Irish Mirror" and was posted yesterday by Zippity.

Not that I'm complaining about people telling Irish jokes. Being Irish, I laugh as loud as anyone else.

The point I am making is that you, and many others, are not very consistent at pointing out so called racist jokes or other so called racist comments. I'm certain that if you substituted "maori" for "Irish" there would be a huge outcry, but because it is an Irish joke no mention is made that the Irish may be offended. Of course, the Irish are not offended. Most Irish tell and laugh at Irish jokes. We Irish don't give a damn.

Using the reasoning that you used with Joe and his rant against the Indians, you should have castigated Zipperty for telling a joke that made out that the Irish are stupid.

Obviously you want to ensure the forums are a pleasant place for all, but if you censor every bit of controversy, racial or otherwise, you will make it a dull place.

I'll go take a look, thanks for pointing me at it .

You can hardly call me out for inconsistency when you don't know my attitude to such things .

I find Irish jokes as objectionable as race-based jokes if they rely on offensive stereotypes of Irish people .

Thanks for your opinion . "Censoring controversy" is not what I've ever suggested, and nor will I .

1218853 2011-07-27 00:40:00 I’m afraid Joe that NZ has become a “Very Precious Country” where the risk of offending anyone is strictly forbidden. No longer do we call a Spade a Spade and the truth is no longer a defence.

On the other hand, our neighbours in Australia are a little more forthright.

PS - I'm sorry you lost your house in Mississippi. It must have been a severe economic blow, as it's still festering inside you.
I take it this refers to me? I lost nothing, I sold a house, I bought another. Nothing severe about it, nor a blow. Nor the Mississippi.
