1245355 2011-11-27 19:58:00 Under the Consumer Guarantees Act THEY have the choice to repair, refund, replace .

Drives generally cannot be repaired so lets disregard that .
Refund - Purchase Price, not the inflated new price (sorry) . But it is the FULL purchase price . It cannot be a credit note .
Replace - If the product is no longer available they may choose an alternative, you don't need to accept that .
You can - Reject the product and choose a replacement of the same type or similar value or a full refund of your purchase price .

Warantee does not start again . The new product then comes with only the remaining Warantee on the original purchase

>The floods were caused by a act of nature - which is not covered under any warranty .

Since the flood did not impact Seagate at all this has no bearing at all . The fact they have increased their price is a simple supply and demand, price gouging, or monopoly . Nothing Act or God about that . For sales I guess thats fair game . To pass that on to existing customers is disgraceful .

I can only hope that the new prices creates a margin that allows some new startup to take advantage and enter their market and in future given equal price and product some may remember what they do when warantees are required . When all is equal - some are more equal than others .

Actually completely wrong about that statement . Seagate directly didn't get hit, but the component supply did .
Other hard drive manufacturers (such as Seagate) will also be affected as component suppliers have experienced flooding Seagate like WD get components from other manufactures, and without the components they cant make drives . thailand-flood-seagate-hard-drive-shortage ( . theverge . com/2011/11/23/2582677/thailand-flood-seagate-hard-drive-shortage" target="_blank">www . theverge . com) << one article .
