1244415 2011-11-20 22:37:00 Were you running AVG by chance?

Seem to be running intoa problem like htis a lot at the moment and it's something to do with AVG (maybe the update from 2011 to 2012?), anyway. I've been able to resolve it by booting of a CD (UBCD/Hirens/Ubuntu) browsing to %windir%\system32\drivers\ and renaming all the AVG files (all start with avg..) to filename.OLD have also changed the name of the AVG folder in Program Files but it shouldn't matter.

Reboot, if it works grab the AVG Remover, then remove, restart, download new installer and install 2012.

Unfortunately it's not from AVG as I haven't used AVG :(

1244417 2011-11-20 23:15:00 Its a long shot since you played about with W8 as well. you cant simply go changing files like that, as a high percentage of the time theres problems.

Something to try -- boot the Computer, enter the BIOS -- reset it to the default settings -- see if it boots OK.

1244419 2011-11-21 00:08:00 Is there more than 1 hdd in the case? If there is, disconnect the non boot hdd. It looks like a faulty SATA cable can cause this prob as well. I would open the case, make sure the cable is in properly, or try changing it Speedy Gonzales (78)

Hey there friend. Just tried changing the cable and it did nothing (just one HD btw, 2 partitions)

I've decided to do a fresh install of 7, leave windows 8 for diagnostics sake in the future. Thank gosh it makes a windows.old folder. I can get my save games recovered and stuff :o. Time to get ready to reinstall like 100 games haha. Thank you all anyway :)
