1217880 2011-07-21 01:02:00 Yeah, up to 1080, then the AMD card stretches the lead somewhat

Fair enough I guess, I've not tried the 2GB 6950, but the 560Ti I've been playing with here (an Asus DCII TOP) has outperformed the 1GB 6950 (an Asus DCII) in msot of the stuff I've tried, though only slightly. Only really use up to 1920x1080 though, so I don't know if even the 1GB 6950 pulls ahead at high res.

How does the 590 stack up to this card?

Utterly destroys it, and is a direct competitor for the 6990, but given the 6950 is about $450, and the 590 and 6990 are about $1100, it's to be expected.

imo the 6950 is AMD's best-placed GPU at the moment - offers good performance for it's pricepoint, and that performance level is high enough for most average gamers. That said, like Sol, I'd go the 560Ti myself ;)

1217881 2011-07-21 01:52:00 Ahh seems I got the 6990 and 6950 confused.
Thanks for the clarification.

1217882 2011-07-21 07:19:00 The figures (frame rate and resolution) for the two cards being discussed look insane.

I don't have any screens that go to those resolutions so I'm going to get a GTX 560 ti.

1217883 2011-07-21 10:00:00 I dont know how this stacks up, but here is a standard 2d & 3d test - see attached.

I did also consider the 560Ti, also considered the Gigabyte version of this card.

Still, unless this one craps out, I'm stuck with it for a while, I hope I'll be happy with it.
Thanks for all comments, its always interesting to hear what others have to say. I've traditionally been an Nvidia fan, but this is my 2nd Ati, had bad experiences with Ati in the past so the jury is still out for me if I'll stick with it or go back to Nvidia - the last one I had was a Geforce 9600 GT which was good in its day.
Thanks all.
