1246557 2011-12-01 03:13:00 This old HP laptop has developed a vertical strip of white line about 20mm at the centre of the screen.

HP Compaq nx6120.

Screen or video card issue? Not worth repairing, I reckon?

1246558 2011-12-01 03:33:00 Connected an external monitor to it and the external mon works fine. Conclusion: Screen needs replacement!

Any guideline as to how much it's going to cost?

1246559 2011-12-01 04:01:00 There is a place in Palmerston North www.configraparts.co.nz Note: make sure you are sitting down before opening that link - New ones are not cheap. wainuitech (129)
1246560 2011-12-01 04:03:00 I was gonna say it's probably not worth replacing the screen.
Rather put the money towards a new laptop.

1246561 2011-12-01 04:03:00 Seen multiple HP's do that. Just sayin, probs a defective part. Funny thing is it doesn't show on boot (with the ones I have seen) The Error Guy (14052)
1246562 2011-12-01 04:22:00 It might just be a faulty lcd connecting cable, these sometimes break one conductor at the hinge due to constant flexing with opening and shutting. A replacement cable for that model can be obtained for US$ 8.77 with free postage from PCHub.com. I've fixed 2 compaq laptops with similar screen problems by replaceing the cable, for about NZ$10 to 12, another one just needed the connector pushed firmly in as it had come loose. jinja_thom (4306)
1246563 2011-12-01 04:33:00 OK. Thanks for all the info. bk T (215)
1246564 2011-12-01 04:48:00 Yes, it could well be the cable too.

You can get a good price on screens on eBay, if you're keep to do the replacement yourself.

1246565 2011-12-03 06:53:00 Odd. I have a HP of the exact same model. It has two white lines 1px thick across the screen. bot (15449)
1246566 2011-12-03 20:34:00 Is there any retail shop carries laptop lcd panels in Auckland area?

Do I need to get the exact brand and model as the original or any 15.4" panel will fit (work) in?
