1246312 2011-11-30 07:40:00 My bios just can not recognize my segate barracuda 500GB HDD. I have a 2-3 year old motherboard. When I try to install windows on it just says there is nothing there. The drive was spinning so i think it goes. Please Help! ChazTheGeek (16619)
1246313 2011-11-30 07:52:00 Did you connect power to it? You need the data and power cable for SATA. If its SATA 2, and the mobo supports SATA 1, you have tor jumper the hdd to SATA1 / SATA 150. What's the model of the hdd?? Some of them had buggy firmware. If windows setup cant see it, you need SATA drivers (if youre installing XP). And if AHCI is enabled in the BIOS Speedy Gonzales (78)

What OS are you trying to install ?

If its XP you may need sata Drivers.

1246315 2011-12-01 19:12:00 I am installing XP the mobo supports SATA 1. I think the model is Barracuda 7200.11. Thanks for the help you have given me so far. Any more suggestions? ChazTheGeek (16619)
1246316 2011-12-01 19:42:00 If the mobo ONLY supports SATA 1 and the hdd is SATA 2, you'll have to jumper the hdd to SATA 1 / 150. Look on the back of the hdd. Thats why the BIOS cant see it Speedy Gonzales (78)
1246317 2011-12-01 23:55:00 Ok. In your first reply you mentioned something about drivers. What of kind of drivers? ChazTheGeek (16619)
1246318 2011-12-02 00:00:00 Drivers = Latest drivers possible. Search Seagate's website or update them through Device Manager. Windows should find the latest drivers for you. EmoCat (16620)
1246319 2011-12-02 00:37:00 SATA drivers. You wont get them from seagate. If the BIOS cant see it drivers wont help you. Since the BIOS needs to see it, before anything else will. Did you change the jumper on the back of it to SATA 150?? You wont get far, (if the mobo supports SATA 1 (and the hdd is SATA 2), without changing the jumper first Speedy Gonzales (78)
1246320 2011-12-02 00:48:00 I think Speedy knows more than I do :D! EmoCat (16620)
1246321 2011-12-02 01:33:00 XP will need drivers to work with with most SATA ports.
you will need get motherboard drivers for the SATA from you motherboard vendor.

then slipstream them onto the install disk.
