| 1246200 | 2011-11-28 23:52:00 | I pulled a hard drive out of my laptop running XP and was using it in an external case and found a lot of the files were denied access on a Vista machine (which I have read is fairly common). I managed to change the ownerships and permissions though and gain access on that particular pc. Now I have the external plugged into a different XP pc though, and again a lot of the files can't be opened, but also there is one folder that I can not find at all! Is it possible that the permissions might have caused that? I didn't think so as this is the only folder that seems to have 'disappeared' and although I am unable to open a lot of files I can still browse folders that reside in the same folder alongside those files. Can recommend a website that has a good overview of how file and folder permissions and ownerships work? I gained access to my files by changing the owner to Administrator but not sure if this is the ideal method. Thanks a lot, Andrew |
