1219917 2011-07-29 07:53:00 Well, element14 shipped half my order, it turns out the blue SMD's I ordered were not actually in stock. Today 5 tiny white ones showed up in a massive courier parcel today (40x40 cm! :D) so that's some good quick service

I went straight to work using a massive soldering irons and extra thick solder. Just to make it hard

I accidentally ripped the pad off my first removal because I didnt realize the solder hadnt completely melted. There is a lot of force on those tiny things.

After about half an hour of perfecting technique I got one on and the rest went on pretty quick, I also managed to repair the ripped off pad. I still don't know how I managed to do all this with the outright useless tools I was using. A quick coat of vinyl paint and my old whites were awesome black!!

In the pics I hadnt yet repaired the pad and soldered on one of the LED's so that explains the No 1 being unlit.

When I get the blue i'll either do the RF board (ring of light and power on front of 360) or a controller.

Enjoy, also, for those who want to do this one thing I always wondered is how bright do the LED's need to be? nowhere in any mod forum was this mentioned. The white ones are around 70 MCD and about the same brightness as the 306 stocks. The blue I ordered are 180 MCD :horrified

Cheers, TEG

EDIT: Vinyl paint is used since it adheres to the plastic and bonds with it. Unlike spray paint which runs and clogs up any writing/indents etc vinyl paint leaves these intact. As you can see in the final pic the start and back buttons can be clearly seen. It also doesnt scratch off. Can be used on most plastic. quite cool for PC case mods, xboxes etc.
