| 1219327 | 2011-07-26 11:16:00 | My current laptop (HP Pavilion dv6 1204ax) is coming up to 2 years old. Recently it has started overheating and freezing up, then won't boot for around 5 minutes. I've tried using compressed air to clean out all the vents but the problem persists. I got a supercover warranty with the laptop ($30, they made me a deal) so is it worth taking back? Will they replace it or just fix it? I figure it's covered by CGA too so should at least be able to argue that. |

| 1219328 | 2011-07-26 11:32:00 | Just take it back. They will send to HP service center. HP service center will then change the heatsink and fan. Problem solved. :D Only problem is that I had to pay $250 to get mine fixed :( The older DV5's,DV6's are known to overheat. The new ones have been fixed. My friend actually has the same laptop and his one also overheated. He sent it to bond n bond and they fixed it under supercover warranty. |

| 1219330 | 2011-07-26 21:44:00 | Me thinks they would just fix it which they are fully entitled to. They don't have to give you a replacement or a new 2yr old equiv. Prob a new HSF and thermal paste. If no warranty you could DIY but the fan might be on the bottom under the motherboard require a bit of time and effort. And that when you pop open the case you just *might* find there might be hairline gaps ... | Nomad (952) | ||

| 1219333 | 2011-08-01 04:13:00 | So it looks like they're replacing the hard drive, fan and motherboard. Thing is, they want me to pay $100 + GST for data backup?!? I'm trying to convince them to just send me the old hard drive and I'll get the data off it myself (I have most of it backed up, really just movies and music and a few files from the last few weeks which I haven't). Is it just me or should this also be covered under the supercover warranty? Or are they right in wanting to charge me for it? |
