1219022 2011-07-25 10:29:00 I think I have a pending 'discussion' with a shop (which will remain nameless for now) over the amount of time it would be reasonably be expected that a netbook should last (what a reasonable person would consider a 'normal' lifetime for one of these units should be).

This will be a CGA discussion, if it gets that far...

The unit in question is an Asus EeePC.

How long do you reckon?

1219023 2011-07-25 10:32:00 to be honest, for what you are paying for them and the many many features their have I would say not much more then the warranty. It is a cheap computer. plod (107)
1219024 2011-07-25 10:34:00 Ok. But a couple of years ago they were not cheap computers... Not like they are now...

Quite correct, but a couple of years ago their still were cheaper then the alternative. Especially if you are talking about the first one with 7inch screen

1219026 2011-07-25 10:38:00 10.1 inch. Top of the range at the time. XP.

1219029 2011-07-25 11:49:00 I would expect it to be obsolete in two years, hardware wise it should last at least 5 years. DeSade (984)
1219030 2011-07-25 12:18:00 You can always be certain that technological obsolescence will kick in MUCH earlier than the death of the hardware.

It's probably obsolete as soon as you've parted with your hard-earned (much like the sets of Britannica and World Book encyclopaedias - now I'm showing my age!!!).

I'm more interested in for how long people think the hardware should be usable...
