| 1246372 | 2011-12-03 20:04:00 | Thats one of the drives with the Firmware issue. Easiest way to tell is the numbers 7200.11 The 11 series are the possible faulty ones. On the page Speedy posted, near the bottom is instructions on what to do if the drive is not detected. |

| 1246374 | 2011-12-03 20:18:00 | Suggestion: Dont piss about, its still under warranty till 6th February 2012 -- send it in and get a replacement, at least you know that will work. 3415 |

| 1246375 | 2011-12-03 20:25:00 | Will I need a receipt? I don't have one you see. Where can I get a get a replacement? | ChazTheGeek (16619) | ||
| 1246376 | 2011-12-03 20:30:00 | Shouldn't do -- if they ask for one say you lost it. They go by the drives serial numbers, part numbers etc, they dont really care where you got it from, as long as you can produce the drive to send them, then once it arrives they test it and replace assuming its faulty. At the moment you have a useless brick -- you got nothing to lose by sending it in under warranty. Edited; I just opened the RMA procedure, which produced the blank form to fill in. No sign of asking for receipt. ( obviously I didn't go any further) 3416 Edited 2: as per the previous picture, post #63 , contact Datastor Google them, they are the first option. Results - I hope ;) (www.google.co.nz) |

| 1246377 | 2011-12-03 20:35:00 | So... where do I send it to. | ChazTheGeek (16619) | ||
| 1246378 | 2011-12-03 20:38:00 | Read above second edit. Simply call them, say you have a faulty Seagate HDD, you did a Warranty check on seagates site, and Datastor was suggested to be contacted -- So you are contacting them -- and they will tell you what to do ( politely hopefully) :p |

Except his label says SD1A - which is the fixed version of the firmware. The faulty versions are: AD14, SD15, SD16, SD17, SD18, SD19, SD81 As such, I doubt this is a firmware issue. Suggestion: Dont piss about, its still under warranty till 6th February 2012 -- send it in and get a replacement, at least you know that will work. 3415 IF they give him a replacement. There was someone else on the forum who tried to get a HDD replaced, they were told due to the flood\shortage it wasn't possible and he just got $50 back instead, or something. Still, it's guaranteed he'll get nowhere as it is, so probably better off sending it back. |

Still, it's guaranteed he'll get nowhere as it is, so probably better off sending it back . That particular thread, last week I think it was, the person sent the drive back to the shop -- Who offered a refund, not Seagate agents, or Seagate them selves . Lots of shops give a 1 year warranty on HDD's where in fact they may have 3-5 year, and the person who brought the drive doesn't know any better . In the case you mentioned last week, I suspect its more to do with teh shop not wanting to give a new replacement drive, or they didn't want to send it back to Seagate and have the person wait for weeks . Just had a look at one of my suppliers that sell Seagate drives, they have plenty of 500's Edited: Except his label says SD1A - which is the fixed version of the firmware . The faulty versions are: AD14, SD15, SD16, SD17, SD18, SD19, SD81 As such, I doubt this is a firmware issue . Explain this then -- looking at seagates site, and working through the firmware upgrade, why then do Seagate say its important to upgrade the firmware . Also look at the link speedy posted, there a download link for it via ISO . 3418 |
