1246363 2011-12-03 01:50:00 Guess the seller was wrong. I wouldn't believe it unless I saw it working. I wouldn't buy it off TM either Speedy Gonzales (78)

1246365 2011-12-03 02:54:00 HDs is one of those things that can fail at anytime, why I never buy them used. Maybe with a laptop but these days lappies have dropped a lot in price .... so I won't either.

IMO, SATA1 vs SATA2 bugger all. If all you want is something that works and is cheap, I get something new, smallest HD and the slowest model like a WD Green or the equiv to the Seagate. I have a WD Black but sort or regret it for my usages ..

Just had a quick look at one of the stores for HDs ... looks like a basic SATA goes for $150  I thought they used to cost like $80-120 .. Maybe from Thailand. Well assuming the HD is still under the 5yr warranty, if you don't need the invoice maybe you can ship it to Singapore and do you need to pay return postal?

1246369 2011-12-03 10:07:00 Well if it's second hand from Trademe it could well be one with the firmware issue, and which may be fixable.

But without knowing the firmware that's on it, it's hard to tell.

Does it say "SD15" (or closely similar) on it anywhere?

Or even better, take a photo of the label, and post it here.

1246371 2011-12-03 19:55:00 You could try getting the ISO for this hdd. (seagate.custkb.com). Then burn it. Then boot from the CD (change the bootdisk to the CD in the BIOS). See what happens. The ISO download is to the right of your hdd Speedy Gonzales (78)
