1246352 2011-12-02 19:33:00 What ever the problem is, the HDD has to be seen in the BIOS first.

Having sata drivers in the OS is second, if the board cant see the drive then the OS wont either.

1246353 2011-12-02 19:39:00 So basically my HDD is a dead one? ChazTheGeek (16619)
1246354 2011-12-02 19:47:00 If two different motherboards are not detecting the drive then it's either

1) Faulty drive
2) Faulty data cable
3) Faulty power cable (If you're using a Molex-SATA adapter, don't use it, or change it)
5) Rare incompatibility nobody has ever heard of, somehow with both boards (very unlikely)
6) SATA controller is disabled in BIOS and somehow you never noticed on both boards (even more unlikely)

It could even be the Seagate firmware bug. What version firmware does it have? (This will be printed on the drive label) - if it's done the self-bricking thing it's probably fixable but not guaranteed.

Did you put the SATA 150 jumper on in the right place? If it's been or was placed incorrectly it could have caused damage or may be causing the drive to fail to start up properly.

1246355 2011-12-02 20:30:00 The cables are fine because i use them for another drive.
I've put the jumper on correctly.
I already own a SATA 80GB HDD so the SATA controller is on.

So I'd say it is a faulty drive

I have no idea what kind firmware it has

1246356 2011-12-02 20:34:00 if its a new drive only just brought its highly unlikely it has the firmware bug unless very old stock. wainuitech (129)
1246357 2011-12-02 21:19:00 If the 80GB is working, plug that into this new PC of yours and see if the BIOS detects it ... with the current motherboard, cable etc etc ... .:) To check. Nomad (952)
1246358 2011-12-02 22:14:00 It does. ChazTheGeek (16619)
1246359 2011-12-02 22:24:00 Take it back to the shop then. Nomad (952)
1246360 2011-12-02 22:58:00 I have no idea what kind firmware it has

Like I said, it's written on the drive label. Typically a 4-digit code like CC34 or SD15 or similar.

I agree, but I don't think anyone said if it was new or even where it came from? (But perhaps I missed it, didn't read every single post)
