1245797 2011-11-27 20:26:00 I was trying to forward ports for xbox live on one of the black thompsons a while ago - it was the most awful interface I've seen on a router, and after finally getting through it and supposedly forwarding the ports, it didn't work properly. Popped in a new TP-Link, forwarded the ports, 5 mins later it was all up and running. wratterus (105)

You'd think so, wouldn't you? But remember, Xbox is made by Microsoft...

1245800 2011-11-28 07:41:00 A mate had a Dynalink and a thompson modem. Forwarded ports to no avail. Dynalink sent him four units, none of them forwarded. His conclusion was that they dont actually forward at all. Its a con. From my experiences I tend to agree, (dynalink R1320) The Error Guy (14052)
1245801 2011-11-28 07:47:00 Funny, my RTA1320 forwarded ports perfectly. I had the latest firmware.

The Thomson is the one that's useless.

Dead right. I've used and configured Dynalinks, some like to fry themselves, but they've all forwarded ports fine.

1245803 2011-11-28 09:20:00 Yeah, sadly mine doesn't work too well anymore.

After the new ADSL2+ cabinet went in, it started failing to make the PPP session on startup (DSL synced just fine)
3 capacitors were bloated inside, I replaced them
It worked fine for a week then wouldn't connect again without a full reset.

I guess something went wrong, no idea if it's hardware or a compatibility problem with the new equipment, or perhaps both.

The hardware of it and the ST536v6 is pretty much the same, bar higher quality voltage regulator circuits in the Thomson. Would love to get the Dynalink firmware running on that hardware, but would probably require some re-engineering of the firmware, something I don't know anything about.

1245804 2011-11-28 18:18:00 Hey if telecom could even get the dynalink logo to appear they would probably consider it to be "full operational" :p icow (15313)
1245805 2011-11-28 20:21:00 I'm with wratterus, mine forwarded fine on the RTA1320 but the router itself died.

Ditch the Thomson, they're crap, you'll constantly run into issues even in the odd chance you manage to get it going in this instance (Though I've had "fun" to say the least trying to get it working).
Save your sanity and just get a better router. You get what you pay for (Or in this case, didn't pay for), so go get something like the Netcomm NB6Plus4Wn
