2011-11-29 07:43:00 | Not sure if this is against the forum rules, if it is than Mods can remove this thread. I need help! Friend had an iPhone 3GS, both of us didnt realise it was jailbroken to be used on other networks. I made the mistake of doing an iOS update and it has removed the jailbroken software and install the iOS 5. Now the phone won't activate since it was bought in US, and needs a US sim and reception to move past the activation screen. I have tried jailbreaking software from various links on the net but no joy. Does anyone have any skills in jailbreaking? I am willing to pay you for your effort. Thanks

I just need an ipsw file that is already jailbroken to restore on this iPhone in order to activate it here and use it as before. thanks for the reply, not really what i was looking for, but thanks anyways | ronyville (10611) | ||

2011-11-29 08:55:00 | I think the problem is the phone was originally networked locked with a jail break to rid the network lock. Someone was selling them on trademe with strict instuctions not to update phone as it will brick it. | plod (107) | |
2011-11-29 08:56:00 | From my research when my sister did the same thing with her iPhone 3G, i had to put an unlocked iPad firmware onto it. It worked but it meant that it could never have another update put on it.

2011-11-29 20:06:00 | There's no unlock for iOS5 (yet) as far as I know - only jailbreaks. I've heard of an unlock coming soon for the iphone4S, but no earlier models. You'd need to revert to iOS4 in order to unlock, but that would depend on what baseband your phone is on. Tiny Umbrella (http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com/) is a useful bit of software that can tell you baseband, firmware versions etc.
