1219612 2011-07-28 01:18:00 Whats the best bet to send money overseas. Am bringing my friend over to NZ from canada and have a repayment plan for him to pay me back as i have the funds to bring him over. It works out to be 2500 NZD. The travelagent's supplier wont take a foreign visa or mastercard, so we have to resort to cash. I was looking at Western union as opposed to my bank doing an IMT or draft, which takes ages. The tickets are being held until 8am Saturday here. Is there a way to move the money in this short space of time? Is western Union safe? and his bank (Scotiabank) does Western union in its banks. he just needs an account and a card, which he has.

Any ideas?

1219614 2011-07-28 03:41:00 Western Union is probably the quickest way of sending money international.

Do it all the time. Never had a issue.

Over a certain value, $2500 would probably be over what ever the value is set at, you will need to provide ID such as a passport or like.

Just go to your local PostShop, fill in the form and pay, get the MTCN number and call/txt/email your friend with that number and they go to who ever acts as WU agents there and collects.

Money can be in there pocket with in minutes.

1219615 2011-07-28 03:48:00 Use your bank . Have them do a bank draft to his bank .

A draft will potentially takes weeks to clear .

If it's urgent and you don't mind the fee, use a TT via the bank - it is clear funds on arrival . . .

(I don't trust Western Union, even though they've been around for decades)

1219620 2011-07-28 08:03:00 I use Western Union often. Cash is available in minutes. Cost is better than telegraphic transfer(which takes 3 working days), needs I.D. (drivers license or passport) for +$1000. nerd89 (14761)
