1247393 2011-12-06 02:01:00 Hi all

I would appreciate knowing whether anyone on the forum, being a Telecom Xtra customer, was contacted by a Telecom representative sometime in September offering to save customers money by changing them from their existing plan to the above mentioned "Total Home Lite Package".

I was on a 20GB Double Data Adventure Plan (40GB) - $61.00, plus home phone and some additional services such a restricted access, call diversion, etc - $59.04 - giving the total cost of $121.04 per month in August.

Receiving a call from a Telecom in early September the representative made me the offer to change to the "Total Home Lite Package" - retaining my 40GB Data Cap and saving me around $20 per month. Obviously I agreed to the plan change and the saving.

At the time I was asked whether it would be OK for the conversation to be recorded for training purposes, to which I agreed.

I received my Telecom account last week and it has the new $93 charge for "Total Home Lite Package, $7.65 of Additional Service charges which I accept, and an Additional charge of $20 for 1 - "Total Home Lite 40GB Package", making a total of $120.65.

I have asked to be sent a copy of the recording but Telecom say -

I have asked Baljit to supply a copy of the recording to you but, (with 8 years experience at Telecom), I would say it is very unlikely that your call was recorded at all. Very few calls are recorded, and those that are are deleted after a period of time.

I asked the question - "Why am I being charged for an additional $20 for broadband? - and don't agree with their explanation of :-

This is because your old plan (Adventure) was normally a 20GB plan, but you were on a promotional deal that gave you double data ie 40GB for the 20GB price. Your new plan (Total Home Lite), comes with 10GB by default, but this can be upgraded to 40GB for an additional $20 per month. To keep the data allowance the same as what you were on, this was provisioned for you.

Now ... I changed plans for a reason, to save myself $20 a month, the actual saving made has been a grand total of $0.39 / month.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone else who has been offered the same "savings" or some advice on who I should contact to have this investigated, i.e. Commerce Commission or whoever.

It's a matter of principle !!

Thanks.

1247394 2011-12-06 02:19:00 I'd dispute it, and suggest that they switch you over to one of their newer plans which also has more data, and that they refund you the difference. Chilling_Silence (9)
1247395 2011-12-06 02:57:00 You will still save $20 it's just gonna take a bit longer like 51 months :lol::lol: gary67 (56)
1247396 2011-12-06 04:05:00 I'm going to dispute it Chill .... but it would be good if I could find someone else that has been offered the same and either received the lower price, or like myself, been charged the additional costs.

Finding one of each would be a bonus ... :D

Tried that pctek ... but of course this was a "new offer only available to existing customers" ... hence my need for the recording of the conversation which was either never made or conveniently deleted.

1247400 2011-12-06 17:33:00 But it does show that plan - and it works out at the cost you have been given..... pctek (84)
1247401 2011-12-06 20:42:00 It shows the plan NOW ... it didn't at the time. Maybe you could explain why I would change plans to save a massive .39 cents per month ... sorry, but I'm not THAT gullable ! SP8's (9836)
1247402 2011-12-06 20:48:00 I was switched to the Home Lite 60GB Pro plan, after being "over extended" on Telecom's Home Lite Pro 40 GB Double Data Plan (80GB). My rental and activity at September was 123.72 (with wiring maintenance, caller display, welcome back, etc) - not too different from your rental fee. Oct the same, Nov slight increase to $128.72. Effectively same cost, but less - 20GB. The broadband component fee, seems to be of 2 main components (BB/LL +excess BB). One at ~$83 (the standard land line + BB rental), and the component for 60GB home Lite pro plan ~$20.

Therefore I'm wondering if you are being billed for the 60GB plan. If not, then for the 40GB plan should be around $105 for the 2 BB component packages, if in Auckland. Otherwise it's $115 if not in Auckland - which I think applies to your current scenario.
