1247237 2011-12-05 20:40:00 How do I go about for Win 7 to be able to receive (automatically) and send faxes?

What hardware do I need? A normal dial-up modem with fax capability will do the job?

What software required?

Suggestions, please.

1247238 2011-12-05 21:56:00 All you need is a faxmodem. If you use 64 bit make sure the modem has 64 bit drivers. Altho it may depend on what version of Win7 you've got. It may have Windows fax and scan Speedy Gonzales (78)
1247239 2011-12-05 22:14:00 Windows 7 on my 32 and 64bit system has Fax and Scan software.

All you need is a dialup modem. Maybe you have a laptop already - that might suffice than buying a modem card .......
You can enable auto receive faxes via - Fax settings (tools menu) and there is a checkbox "allow the device to receive fax calls" then either "manual answer" or "automatic answer after [] rings".

Oh, and if you enable auto receive faxes, you may miss phonecalls if you don't have a faxline ..... so turn that if when no longer need.

1247240 2011-12-05 22:37:00 I couldn't find any fax software in my win7 home Prem

Went to control panel, nothing there. it has got phone and modem but not fax.

Or, do I need to install the modem/fax first?

1247241 2011-12-05 22:42:00 Windows fax and scan will be in the menu. If your version has it. Dont know if Prem has it, I've got Pro. But you need a faxmodem to use it Speedy Gonzales (78)

1247243 2011-12-05 23:19:00 apparently not in your Vista edition...

With the January 2007 release of Windows Vista, the Fax and Scan program and function was included on the higher-end Business, Ultimate, and (optionally self-installed) Enterprise editions, but excluded from the Home Basic and Premium editions

but back in all versions of 7

*EDIT*
well, seems it is in Home Prem after all, according to Gary's post above

1247245 2011-12-06 07:31:00 Found a Pragmatic AMI-IA56 modem, plug it into my Win7 machine, win7 detected it but could not find any driver for this hardware. Googled without luck.

Is there any Win 7 compatible modem around?

1247246 2011-12-06 08:14:00 Go into its entry then details tab. Change it to hardware ID's. Copy and paste whats here in Google or here. Is it 32 or 64 bit? Speedy Gonzales (78)
