| 1220452 | 2011-08-02 01:29:00 | Ive been enquering at some spectacle shops for a while now, but all of them say they do not waive the eye exam fee if you purchase a pair of spectacles from them. Is this standard for NZ? I thought its fairly common for them to waive the eye exam fee if you purchase a pair of spectacles from them immediately after(since well you need to have the eye exam to purchase spectacles...). Is this simply another example of high prices in NZ? |

| 1220453 | 2011-08-02 01:34:00 | I got my last pair of specs from Spec Savers. I think that they did charge me an examination fee. Over sixties qualify for a discount. Overall I thought that they are pretty good. | Bobh (5192) | ||
| 1220454 | 2011-08-02 02:28:00 | Most of the ones ive asked charge ~$100 for the eye exam alone, $100+ for a frame, and god knows how much for the lenses... | Question (15792) | ||

Optometrists are professionals who are there to check your eyesight and determine what level of correction you need. They also play a valuable role in detecting not only eye disease, but also the symptoms of other diseases that may affect your vision as a side effect. If you want cheap glasses without the professional examination you can go to places with racks of ready-made cheapies that will suit most people with similar vision deterioration in both eyes. You can choose your "prescription" yourself and somebody chewing gum will take your money and ask if you want fries with that. However, if you want corrective lenses matched precisely to your needs, then you have to pay for the equipment, skills and experience that only an optometrist can give you. Price or cost is not eveything, and money is literally valueless compared to seriously impaired vision caused by delayed diagnosis of internal pressure within your eyes or other conditions that can lead to blindness. Don't be a fool to yourself, or a scrooge, cheapest is not always best. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

| 1220457 | 2011-08-02 03:53:00 | I got a full eye exam on one of those daily deal sites only paid $25 for full test, which I have to have every year due to Glaucoma in my family. Luckily got away with another year of not needing specs though | gary67 (56) | ||

So if they don't charge for the eye exam they will just add it on to the price of the glasses. |

| 1220460 | 2011-08-02 05:53:00 | 39dollarglassesdotcom (I think that is the name) in the US of A has a pretty good range of glasses. Why pay 4 - 500 in NZ when you can get the same if not better for just over 100NZ with a 5 day delivery :) :) |

| 1220461 | 2011-08-02 06:33:00 | Asia has free eye test; not NZ . The eye test might be $70 . . . All up prob cheaper in Asia . There are places like Budget Eyewear or Specsavers but they don't tend to carry the big brands if that is what you are after at least the ones they advertise . As something you may recognise OPSM may carry that if you want that . |
