1220293 2011-08-01 04:57:00 One of these guys called me last week after not being able to convince my kids to do anything (his accent was a problem) - I got handed the phone as I walked in the door after work.

I instantly recognised the patter from the reports that have been going around all year & thought I'd just play the idiot user & waste his time while I made myself a nice coffee & read the paper. He had to spend a couple of minutes explaining how to open the Run dialog as I feigned misunderstandings at every possible step (after letting him sit in silence a couple of minutes as I let the PC "boot" - it was actually already on). It was a blast getting him to spell "eventvwr" for me - at one point he said "T for Tango" & I said "t-a-n-g-o, what comes after o?" & then a similar process for "v for Victoria". After being "surprised" by all the warnings & errors in Event Viewer he ended up getting me to get into the Run dialog again (I'd "forgotten" how to do it from last time) & type "www.logmein123.com". At this point I said "will this take me to the web? I'm on dialup, so I'll have to put the phone down now" & hung up on him. He rang back after a couple of minutes & was trying to get me to give him my mobile number (yeah, right!) when the line went funny & he couldn't hear me, so I hung up again. He rang back yet again, at which point I confronted him, let him know I'd been wasting his time & abused him for being lowlife scum & to p*ss off, then hung up again. I'd obviously touched a nerve, because he tried to ring about 10 times in the next couple of minutes (telltale was the Caller ID number changing every time) & started abusing & threatening me & my family. I just laughed at him & hung up again. About half an hour later he called back & I pretended we had a bad line & couldn't hear him while he ranted on for a few more minutes & then I hung up on him for the last time & he hasn't been back.

I feel a little guilty now that I realise that he may have been using stolen card info to pay for the calls, but I hope he had a boss & I got him into trouble for wasting time ( & hopefully money) on a punter that wasn't going to crack. Certainly got him angry for some reason - he could have just gone on to the next clueless user instead of wasting his time abusing me. It was pretty funny while it lasted - my kids were cracking up, anyway...
