1220705 2011-08-09 03:36:00 Press Release: Boycott Adidas Campaign

We make a call for Adidas New Zealand to stop blocking New Zealanders from purchasing overseas.
Please, if you support us, go to www.facebook.com/groups/boycott.adidas.nz

Yes rather rude of them doing that. And no doubt they pay 50c from some sweatshop who makes them anyway.

But bugger facebook, I just emailed Adidarse direct.

1220706 2011-08-09 03:55:00 There's not many examples I can think of of products where NZ get this screwed, AND the distributor ban overseas retailers from shipping it here...

In a way it is similar to movie distribution around the world. Apple do it too, as you must buy through the NZ apple store, rather than the US one, where the us one is cheaper due to the NZ-US exchange rate.

1220707 2011-08-09 04:23:00 There's not many examples I can think of of products where NZ get this screwed, AND the distributor ban overseas retailers from shipping it here . . .

As robbyp says - it's common practice for multi-nationals to do this, usually to protect their local (NZ) retailers from currency fluctuations and the volume discounts that can be applied by retailers in countries where the population-base is larger .

However this business model is very 20th century - the intertubes have changed the ground rules . Just ask the music and movie industries . . . .

And the fact that the RWC 2011 is being held in NZ and Adidas making this announcement to stop overseas retailers shipping to NZ smacks of greed . It's a (potential?) PR disaster for them - anything positive they may have got from being an "Official Supplier to the RWC" will forever be tarnished, at least in NZ, by their "we're going to screw you and we don't care" attitude .

I for one will never buy another Adidas product .

In fact this issue has pissed me off so much, I'm almost tempted to join Farcebook just to jump on that boycott bandwagon - and I HATE Farcebook!!

1220708 2011-08-09 04:30:00 I never had any intention to purchase the jersey in question, but as a result of Adidas' approach to the situation (screw you NZ, we'll charge what we like), I have no intention of purchasing any Adidas products in future. inphinity (7274)
1220709 2011-08-09 04:57:00 Although there is no such thing as bad publicity, and people will forget all about it in years time. It's all about the mighty dollar
You could say the same thing about milk too, as milk in other countries is cheaper than in NZ, even though we produce it here, we have to pay a price that is based on a world price.

1220710 2011-08-09 05:03:00 I got a genuine Chelsea jersey when I was in the UK a few years ago for 15 pounds.

Edit: the better question would be 'How much does a Sprinkbok jersey cost in SA or an England jersey in the UK or a Wallabies jersey in Aus?'

But a springbok jersey is cantabury and not adidas

The difference being I can buy said apple device from a non apple store from the US, where adidas is trying to stop people buying from non adidas stores

1220712 2011-08-09 05:55:00 I most definitely am bisexual.

I think this is known as "having a bet each way". Either that, or "keeping your options open". :horrified

Cheers

I think they have only stopped one particular online store which is the one that the media has highlighted, so you can still possibly buy from other stores in the US.
