1220502 2011-08-07 03:28:00 Thanks, but their closest store is 2 km away. Not enough for such a hassle. Question (15792)
1220503 2011-08-25 08:59:00 Ok got my eyes checked today, had no issues reading the charts with my current glasses. and apparently my prescription has hardly changed

However I am at a new optometrist and they seem to use a different notation and i can't figure it out specifically the axis part.

On my old (2004) prescription it read like this

refraction
R -1.75/ -0.50 x 080 VA 6/5 PD 64/61 OMB
L -2.00/ -0.50 x 080 VA 6/5

on my new one

Right
Sphere: -1.50
Cylinder: -0.50
Axis: 97

Left
Sphere: -2.00
Cylinder: -0.50
Axis: 75

PD: 64/

Ok so sphere, cylinder and PD i vaguely understand but Axis how do i compare the 2 measurements between the two different exams.

I have no problems seeing with my current prescription and don't have any issues with reading signs etc, main reason for the eye test was so SWMBO would get hers tested, $900 for hers (astigmatisms and various other issues)

1220504 2011-08-25 10:05:00 Here in Siem Reap Cambodia I see one place advertising eye test and glasses $15.
Had I more time I would have checked that out for a pair of reading glasses to bring home.

Your old script is written in the traditional convention, being:
Sphere / Cylinder x Axis

The OMB bit on its own is nonsense. If they drew a croshair type symbol beside OMB then it indicates your eyes are not inclined to cross or diverge excessively.

Here's old and new compared in the same format:

Sphere / Cyl x Axis

Old R: -1.75/ -0.50 x 080
New R: -1.50 / -0.50 x 097

Old L: -2.00/ -0.50 x 080
New L: -2.00 / -0.50 x 075

PD 64/61

Analysis: Tiny improvement in R distance vision (less myopia). However, the axis has changed by 17 degrees, which would give a noticable improvement. Difference could potentially be noticed in clarity, fatigue, strain, headache symptoms.

(the smaller the cylinder [cyl=astigmatism] the less significant the axis becomes, and the reverse applies, with cyls over 2.00 the axis really is critical to a single degree of change)

Left eye - only change is 5 degrees on a measly 0.50 cyl - insignificant, as you were advised.

PD should not change in an adult. 64 is fairly typical of a euro male. Smaller figures to females, much larger figures are typical for PI males

They'll have an eye out for you now.
