1221067 2011-08-06 21:01:00 Any chance you can generate some graphs, like with cacti / rrdtool or something that show the link utilization? Just curious ... Chilling_Silence (9)
1221068 2011-08-07 10:54:00 Oh is NZ finally getting some decent internet? Is this part of the government's broadband initiative? Question (15792)
1221069 2011-08-07 20:54:00 Great news
The sad new is that the government gave the bulk of the New Zealand wide high speed fibre contract to Telescum

1221070 2011-08-07 23:23:00 F7U12!!!

Time other ISPs in NZ got up with the play.

Oh thanks Telecom, you are giving me an extra 20gb from now on? Whoopie! How about double or hell, even triple the current data cap eh?

1221071 2011-08-08 12:00:00 You have to laugh at the irony... at a time when the copyright law is going to reduce the volume of data people are using, the ISPs all get together and raise our caps for all that data we'll no longer be consuming.

First thing I did with the raised cap was drop back to a cheaper plan and even less data than before.

1221072 2011-08-08 12:56:00 Why are people worried about the copyright laws? Is the government really going to go to such an extent to track and prosecute what could be hundreds of thousands of downloaders?

Seems like the kind of law that gets passed for "just in case" scenarios where a huge corporation makes a large stink about it.

Are those civil or criminal laws? If civil, IIRC the government cant do anything unless the copyright holder sues anyway...
Question (15792)
1221073 2011-08-08 21:23:00 The government won't be, no. They don't give a rats ass aside from the US Govt pushing them to implement the law (As seen by Wikileaks cables).

Other than that, the NZ Govt doesn't really care, NZ ISP's don't really care ....

1221074 2011-08-08 21:32:00 Unison Fibre has linked Hastings and Napier, the CBD is next and a few our local areas...should be done in the next 12 moths. Airnet have just put a client of mine on VHDSL 40/12, and said fibre prices should come down from $300 p/mth to under $100 p/mth when Telecom split complete....I cant wait....

Does anyone have a schedule of the various fibre roll outs around NZ....I might have to try get Stephen Joyces e-mail!

1221075 2011-08-08 21:55:00 This roll out is coming just before the election.
National made it a big policy plank, and it has taken 3 years.

I wonder how much more they can connect in 3 months
