1248085 2011-12-10 22:32:00 Hi guys

I was asked to put a bid together for a website, so i put one together and did a mock-up live site it was unsuccessful

However i went to look at the Successful site today, they are using the background from my mockup, the logo from my mockup (note i was given a piece of paper with the logo on it, which i scanned in and edited to make the logo for the site).

I am about to approach the guy who contacted me about doing the job, to see what the heck is going on.

what do i need to do so that i have proof of what has happened, i may still have my original designs around somewhere.

PS

anyone wanting to see the 2 sites pm me

thanks

1248086 2011-12-10 23:00:00 So the test site didn't have copy protection on it ??

Thats a negative comment I got from my site from some people here -- Disable the right click/save and some went all stupid as if it was a big crime to lock a site.

1248087 2011-12-10 23:52:00 LMAO - c'mon, you really think right click disabling would stop that happening?

definately would do absolutely nothing to "lock a site" from image theft

1248088 2011-12-11 00:16:00 @bevy -- It stops the wannabes and makes it a bit more of a pain in the arse to copy -- but I guess you have no morals about stealing others ideas or work so you wouldn't have any worries about doing so. wainuitech (129)
1248089 2011-12-11 00:22:00 Thanks Morgenmuffel , looked at both sites, your mock-up and the other one -- COPIED for sure no doubt about it.

To be honest your mockup looks better and more professional.

1248090 2011-12-11 00:34:00 it doesn't stop anyone at all - even complete novices

...and so you think you can pass judgement on my morals and say I would steal others idea's because I say right click disabling is annoying, pathetic, extremely usless and was maybe a good idea 10 years ago but absolutely frowned upon both by web developers and users these days.?

I repeat - it doesn't stop even the wannabes - even they have learned things like "view page info" where all images are available no matter what code you have used.

or view source and get url of images
or drag and drop on your desktop
or in your browser cache
or screen shot
etc etc ad infinitum

obviously if you want to protect an image you don't do it by right click disabling, it will never never be successful - you watermark it or something

1248091 2011-12-11 00:48:00 To Quote yourself LMAO -- Watermarks - Easy to remove, lots of free software thats easy to use to do such tasks. :p

Bit like altering, editing, removing text, pictures from PDF files -- easy as hell. No longer as "secure" as they used to be.

1248092 2011-12-11 01:06:00 I am about to approach the guy who contacted me about doing the job, to see what the heck is going on.

what do i need to do so that i have proof of what has happened, i may still have my original designs around somewhere.See what the guy says first and if he becomes difficult then tell him you will be taking your evidence to a small claims court. Do you have the emails or other correspondence still? You will need to provide your original designs if it goes to court.

1248093 2011-12-11 01:07:00 so what are you saying exactly - other than declaring that you
"guess I have no morals about stealing others ideas or work so I wouldn't have any worries about doing so"

are you saying disabling right click is in fact a good way to protect your content?

and once again, what basis are you passing your judgement on my morals on?
bevy121 (117)
1248094 2011-12-11 01:22:00 if you cant figure that question out by your own posts, then I'm not going to waste my time explaining. ;)

I dont know if you have asked Morgenmuffel for links to the sites in question, but if you see them, its an obvious copy with a few pictures & text rearranged.

Stealing someones elses work, calling it their own, for what could be a paid project, and then making money from it is down right low and completely dishonest in anyones books.

As I mentioned previously, I think the mockup actually looks better.
