1247801 2011-12-08 19:43:00 For some reason I cannot send emails (ihug) from my iPad when on another wifi network other than my home one.
There is obviously a setting that am missing – anyone any ideas?
Thanks

1247802 2011-12-08 19:56:00 You can only send through the SMTP outgoing server of the ISP your connection is with unless you have SMTP SSL setup in the iPad.
In the mail settings set the outgoing server to SSL ON and the port number to 465 and enter your ihug username and password

1247803 2011-12-08 20:10:00 OK did that and it has stuffed up my settings – says now can’t send or receive from home and now can’t remember what the original port setting was! stuffed (1469)
1247804 2011-12-08 20:17:00 Sounds like you changed the Incoming POP server to SSL instead of the outgoing SMTP
The port numbers with SSL off are incoming POP 110 outgoing SMTP 25
With SSL on they are Incoming POP 995 Outgoing SMTP 465

You can leave SSL off for Incoming and just change Outgoing to SSL on.

1247805 2011-12-08 20:39:00 Or just used a web based mail client when away from home, a little less convenient perhaps but it works. dugimodo (138)
1247806 2011-12-08 21:09:00 who is you ISP? robsonde (120)
1247807 2011-12-08 22:00:00 What dugimodo said.

Basically when you're at home, you're using your ADSL Broadband connection. Your ISP will allow you to send emails using their server.

When you connect via 3G, what happens is you're trying to connect to your home ISP, but they won't let you send emails using their Email Server if you're coming from somewhere else.

With this in mind, get yourself some description of a Gmail account that you can use to "send as" your main email address. Gmail will work on WiFi or 3G this way. It's a common issue that a lot of people run into and this is basically the only way around it.

1247808 2011-12-08 22:12:00 ihug as mentioned.
BTW - are you troops familiar with the iPad? Just there does not appear to incoming POP 995 settings.
Thanks

1247809 2011-12-08 22:28:00 In the mail settings click on Advanced.
You can turn SSL on or off there for incoming mail
You don't need SSL on for incoming mail when on another wifi network but you do for outgoing server.
