1222082 2011-08-09 08:58:00 Oooh, I like that idea! If that makes it to market in an economical form, it bodes very well for anything needing large amounts of easily-rechargeable portable energy. Erayd (23)

1222084 2011-08-09 20:02:00 Alternative power for vehicles has to be found. Saw on TV yesterday where petrol uses only 25% of it's energy to move the vehicle. Oil could be put to better use producing things like plastic. Battery power is the obvious solution. Batteries can produce the power and speed to move the vehicle but cannot keep the vehicle moving for a great distant at the moment. Bobh (5192)

I don't think battery electric is viable myself, the electricity still needs to be generated to charge them and most of the electricity in the world is still produced by burning coal. You just move the problem to the power companies you don't relieve it. Also unless you can pull into a service station and recharge in a few mins it just isn't practical for daily use.

Electric motors are great but I think a way needs to be found to generate electricity from fuel, such as in fuel cells.

I did see an article about Japanese scientists (I think) who had invented a liquid containg charged particles that could be pumped into a "battery" and used as a power source, then quickly replaced when the charge was used up. Sounds promising depeniding on how they produce the "fuel" Edit: lol, think this is the same stuff as the article posted.

It's a subject that interests me but I'm confident it will be solved eventually.

1222089 2011-08-09 23:17:00 It's not going to work. Liquid being pumped around is fine in theory, but that article mentions only a black slurry, even kids know that you need both red and black before the power goes around and you see the light.
As soon as you start saying that the red and black have to be kept separate except for selected mixing areas, the PC brigade will clamp down like a bunch of immoderates.
