CHANDLER ARIZONA (KPNX-TV News) - As Chandler residents Joshua Seto, 27, and his fiancée, Cara Christopher, walked over to a Fry's Food Store for refreshments, he tried securing her pink handgun in the front waistband of his pants. The gun fired, striking Seto's penis and continuing through his left thigh. The bleeding started immediately and was heavy, according to police dispatch recordings released Sunday. "He is still conscious, there is just a lot of blood," Christopher , 26, told 9-1-1 operators and dispatchers. One operator told Christopher to apply direct pressure to the wound with a dry towel or T-shirt, but to avoid looking at the wound. "But I did look at it," Christopher said. "It's pretty bad." The accidental shooting took place about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 900 block of W. Elliot Road. When the emergency call first went through, Christopher was asked if they needed paramedics, she said yes. "He's still coherent and everything but he's bleeding quite a lot," she said. In the wake the accident, police are warning armed residents to use holsters, not waistbands. The movies and TV shows, like Sons of Anarchy, that show tough guys with guns shoved into their jeans are not realistic, Chandler Police Detective Seth Tyler said Sunday. The cops and robbers of the silver screen most likely use rubber weapons, which weigh far less than the real things, Tyler said. "Whenever you handle a firearm, whether you are a novice or experienced, always treat firearms as though they are loaded, said Tyler, a spokesman for the department. "If you are going to carry a handgun on your person, use a holster, not your waistband." Meanwhile, it is not clear if Seto has been released from the hospital or suffered any permanent damage. "He is recovering," Tyler said. He may possibly face charges, too, for accidental discharge of a firearm in public and in a haphazard manner, Tyler said. "The case agent is still determining that," Tyler said Sunday. Tyler was unsure of the type of gun, or whether it had a safety that was off. It wasn't stated whether the fiancée cancelled their wedding plans or not. The caliber of the weapon was also not noted.	SurferJoe46 (51)

1222067	2011-08-09 04:58:00	That'd be an honourable mention rather than an award wouldn't it? I imagine that's one person who learnt his lesson - you'd hope. Almost feel like laughing at him, but then I think of the injury and can't quite do it. I despair of people carrying or needing to carry handguns around, of all the modern weapons none seems so singularly designed for killing people. It has no other purpose. NZ has one of the highest gun ownership rates in the world I believe, but handguns are rare and seeing guns in public almost unthinkable. Even the police generally don't carry guns on their person but rather have them secured in the vehicle in case of emergency (at least so I believe). As the population grows and crime grows with it we may lose this luxury, but I don't wan't to live in a country where people carry guns around (no offense intended to our american friends, I'd still visit just not stay).	dugimodo (138)

1222069	2011-08-09 06:57:00	Well I suppose there is money in making pink guns for gays and females. I love the US right to bear arms and want the same thing here but what somewhat modified for NZ. No pistols and the user licensed. We have the second highest number of guns per person to Finland but included in the Finland total is the reservists have a government gun at home. Amazing considered that you have to run over broken glass here to get and maintain your gun licence that we have so many guns.	prefect (6291)
