| 1221507 | 2011-08-08 00:13:00 | In the most recent electric issue (the Nissan one) I didn't interpret any part of it to be "It doesn't get the range they say", simply "You're screwed if it goes flat anywhere but a main centre with a charging station". Petrol stations are common enough, and the range of most petrol-powered vehicles long enough, that it's not a big issue. But if you were to drive a Nissan LEAF in New Zealand, you'd be screwed, as I don't believe there are more than 4 or 5 stations in the whole country. I realise it's a slightly better situation in many parts of Europe, but it's still nowhere near as widespread as petrol, and I interpreted the episode as a commentary on how impractical an electric vehicle is at this point for most people because the necessary infrastructure is not in place to make it practical to drive around and "recharge" as needed the way you can a petrol vehicle. | inphinity (7274) | ||
| 1221508 | 2011-08-08 00:16:00 | Normally most things are tried out in NZ first because we are so gullible but not electric cars. there is not the population to support it like the euro. You imagine designing an electric car and then getting the places to recharge them.....who is going to buy these cars? unless there is a charging place every 2 kilometers | Gobe1 (6290) | ||

I stopped watching it because while mostly it's very entertaining, they do do this kind of stuff. It is a car show, so waht if they like loud, fast, petrol eating performance cars? Not a reason to blatantly lie about them. Why don't they just stick to the facts and their usual comments about how it's not for them type thing. |
